so (Blue) Zircon’s argument/speculation points out...
It’s exactly as you say: far too neat, and renders this whole long arc of Steven’s pretty much pointless. I really don’t think it’s that simple, and I really really don’t want anyone but Rose to have done it. What makes me really suspicious is the amount of emphasis they were placing on PD’s pearl/the pearls, before that swerve into accusing the diamonds. Man, I don’t know. The “murder mystery” is intriguing but I also just… just let me have my assassinated tyrant.
same. I want my assassinated tyrant, and I want Rose to have done it. at this point, they’ve invested so much time and painstaking detail in Steven grappling with his mother’s decision to assassinate Pink Diamond that resolving it by basically going “LOL PSYCHE!!!1!1!! ROSE WASN’T THE KILLER!!1!!!1!1! ONE OF THE OTHER DIAMONDS WAS!!!!!!!1!!!!1!!!!!1!!!1!1!!!! WHAT A TWIST, RIGHT!?!?!?!!/!?!11!?!!!!?” would feel both cheap and like a squandered opportunity for the culmination of a difficult arc that they forced us to invest in.
the emphasis on the pearls also struck me. that question which basically amounted to “where was Pink Diamond’s pearl in all this?” has got me thinking about what kinds of theories about our Pearl being PD’s pearl, responsible for PD’s murder, and Rose covering for her will spring up. I...don’t think Pearl was PD’s pearl, but if WD--who I think was Pearl’s Diamond--was somehow involved? bluh. I don’t know. it doesn’t make sense? Pearl was with Rose during the flashback in “The Answer,” and Blue Diamond didn’t seem GRIEF-STRICKEN or FURIOUS toward Rose, so it’s unlikely that “The Answer” happened after Pink Diamond was killed...which means it’s equally unlikely that Pearl would have been the “trusted gem” that helped Rose get in close. :-\
@oathkeeper-of-tarth:
Thank you for answering these! Ez is the best and has absolutely impeccable energy. I've become really interested in seeing how people choose to play her in their various campaigns, and I love finding touchstones among the portrayals (the queerness? absolutely seems to be one. love it). And yeah I gotta say as a bi she/they myself I ZOOMED IN on that "Ez" preferred name in VRGtR, so that gender question felt very apt here when I saw it in the prompt list. Thanks again!
Oh, absolutely! I love Ez and my players do, too. She’s having a Thing with the Cleric (who is collecting lovers in each town s2g) and the running joke that I am Dead Serious About is that after the Big Battle Urlstra, Ez, and Lucian are going to go have Adult Fun Time to deal with the stress they’ve been under for the last week. Lucian and Ez haven’t met but Urlstra has two hands, so it’s fine.
I feel like if you’re a queer D&D player/DM, there’s no way NOT to zoom in on Ez being queer. I seriously am trying to imagine some straight homophobe trying to handle the “pointless” change in their campaign and it gives me a headache to try to imagine how someone could NOT see it. Ez is a Queer Icon. My party is all bi women so like... Ez is a win for our party and a win for all queer D&D players out there.
And any time! I appreciate your interest in my version of the game! I was poking around your blog and there are some BEAUTIFUL things there! Have a great day!
12 Days of Ficmas- Day 1
December 20th- Day One: Your all-time favorite fic of your OTP OR Your favorite canon-compliant fic
Title: Steal
Author: TheBlindBandit aka oathkeeper-of-tarth
Fandom: Steven Universe
Pairing: Pearl/Rose
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings (if any): NA
Summary: Rose mulls over her complicated desire for a pearl or, really, Pearl.
Why I Rec This Fic:
At this point all rebellion stuff is canon-complaint since there’s so little canon, so this is an excellent opportunity to highlight a delightful pre-rebellion Rose and Pearl story! This story has some great Rose Quartz inner monologue, a little imagined teasing between quartzes, and Pearl training on her own. All in just 923 words. It’ll only take a minute to read, so read away!
oathkeeper-of-tarth replied to your post: More Doujinshi
Oh my gosh, The Little Mermaid! Amazing.
Indeed! The Little Mermaid was actually published twice - this is the original edition from 2000. There was also a later edition that was more done in a Copybook format, called the Final Edition published in 2006 and reprinted a few times since then. I already had the Final Edition, but I really wanted the original as well.
oathkeeper-of-tarth replied to your post “Happy birthday, you! I'm sorry I'm fresh out of puns... but I still...”
