headcanon meme.
a childhood headcanon.
“as a child, this [aggressive] behavior had a bit more of a… cry-for-help quality.” to expand on this, child margarethe suffered from some degree of depression. anger and irritability, a lack of ability to concentrate, and difficulty in social situations were her main symptoms, but her growing fear of water and drowning (which i’ve discussed in other headcanons) probably had some roots in a desire… not necessarily to die, but to just disappear, the way things disappear into water.
as a child, a lot of her really egregious behaviors weren’t born from a desire to push boundaries or to be a little shit, but from a need for someone to see her, to really look at her and pay attention to what was happening to her. i’ve discussed in other headcanons that the only member of her family who didn’t explicitly abuse her and who gave her affection was her father; but that he was an enabler of the abuse perpetrated by margarethe’s mother and brother, and that his affection was really him buying a perfect, angelic, unfeeling “good girl” version of margarethe with his love. no one looked at margarethe and really saw the degree of pain she was experiencing; no one cared. margarethe being margarethe, she was going to make someone care whether they liked it or not, hence some of her worst behavior.
