Unter denen, die todesbereit und kampfbegierig nach Oberschlesien gezogen, war nicht einer, der es um der Heiligkeit der Verträge willen tat. Nicht einer marschierte in den Reihen, um an die Mächte der Sitte, der Vernunft und des Gewissens zu appellieren. Denn zum ersten Mal im deutschen Nachkrieg war hier ein Kampf von aller Problematik frei. Es traf der Ruf unser Herz, er tötete im Augenblicke alle zweifelnde Erwägung. Dies Land war deutsch, es war bedroht, und wir marschierten, es aufs neue zu erstreiten.
