I honestly feel bad for people who saw Oberyn die without knowing that it was coming. Especially given how loveable Oberyn is, and how dominant he was in the fight up until the end. Unless you know the outcome of the fight, it blindsides you when Gregor caves his head in.
There are a couple of episodes I refuse to watch because the counterpart scenes in the books were difficult as hell for me to read, and because I really don't want to relive them. The Red Wedding's one. Oberyn dying is another.
