It had started completely unintentionally; in fact, she had been the one to initiate it, stealing a fiery kiss in the middle of a duel with the intention of throwing him off balance. What she hadn't counted on, however, was her own impetuous plan backfiring so spectacularly that they'd ended up breathless and exhausted against a wall...and not from trying to kill each other.
They never talked about it, not even in teasing, but something had changed between them after that first time. Something had awakened in them both that drew them together time and time again, culminating in this small hotel room overlooking Coruscant's industrial district. She wasn't entirely sure what he got out of this arrangement aside from physical release from the stress of the war, something he could have gotten just about anywhere from anyone.
But he picked her. His enemy. A woman whom he didn't trust, couldn't trust on principle. A woman who stood to gain more from his death than his touch. And yet he came back again and again, the gentility in his hands and his kiss underlaid with an aggressive passion that he always kept in check. And yet she found herself craving him, a man whom she hated, yet knew in her heart deserved better. What made it especially worse was how her hatred of him had cooled over the months to the point where her first thought now wasn't the myriad ways she could send him to his grave, but how much younger and unburdened he looked when he smiled.
All this she knew. And she was ashamed.
