citron and her big chunkies (sneakers)
I’d seen this doll on Mandarake for the longest time. I’d go browsing and she’d still be there. Both shoulders were broken and her head stained by a wig (not sure if it was this one or a different wig).
I’m relatively handy so I ordered her and she arrived like this.
I’ve been calling her Moon Moon because she has a cute, round face. She does need a better name, but anyone that knows me knows my dolls all have terrible names.
She was wearing more clothing than I thought...
Her shoulders were much more broken when she arrived than when they’d taken her sales photos!
Big oof.
Thankfully all of the broken parts were inside her body, the way it was broken made it relatively easy to fix, and an extra little bit of plastic was in there, too. I still have no idea where the extra piece came from, but it came in handy later.
To fix her shoulder, the first thing I did was super glue the parts back on.
Then I put some small zip ties around BOTH shoulder sockets. The other one was starting to crack, too, and needed some support.
I recommend doing this to your dolls’ joint sockets right out of the gate. The little bit of extra support helps them last a lot longer.
I would guess this doll fell and landed on her shoulder, which broke it.
After that dried I took the little bit of mystery extra plastic, dissolved it in acetone, and used it to putty over the break because that crack is at a critical point which will take considerable stress and I wanted to give it a little more support than super glue alone.
The above photo is before puttying, to show the glued break. I don’t seem to have a photo of after.
While that dried and set up I worked on cleaning up her face. She has a really cute, delicate faceup that I didn’t want to remove because I sure as hell can’t do better
............
and her faceup is part of what drew me to her. Though mostly it was pity because no one would buy her... She was there for SO LONG.
I picked off her lashes, did a very light cleaning with a melamine sponge, and put her lashes back. Worked out great. There was one spot of ink left on her cheek which I gave a little bloop of brown paint to bring it all in.
I tentatively put her arms in. I was so scared they were going to shatter the shoulders again or get glued in place or something bad would happen, but no. It’s fine. The arms pose wonderfully and stay in place.
She did get swapped onto a different body afterward. A lot of my 1/4th scale vinyl dolls got swapped around at that time.
This head ended up on a more mature looking Xinyi body.
Oh yea remember the cute parabox doll i got the other month? Here's her just incase u forgot ;)
