Object-relations theory falls under developmental psychology.
Object-relations theory provides for a detailed understanding of the development of ego.
Ego is a mental structure.
Margret Mahler noted that: the biological birth of the human infant is not the same as the psychological birth of the individual.
The infant has no sense of being a person, undifferiantiated, and a lack of awareness of self or other.
The process of ego-development is called “seperation-individuation”.
