Oblivion Hunter, Lightning Bolt (2012)
Promoted as an EP of previously-unreleased material, Oblivion Hunter had the length of a typical Lightning Bolt album but didn’t spark anywhere near as much interest. It’s even messier than their debut Ride the Skies, so messy in fact that it’s the only record where the duo’s talent is slightly masked. The quality of the recording can make it hard to grasp the skill involved, logically also making it easier to faze-out of and ignore. Oblivion Hunter is easily the least enjoyable and least re-listenable Lightning Bolt album, though it holds bottom place in a remarkably strong discography and is still a grotty, difficult work made by talented musicians.
Pick: ‘King Kandy’
