Just read your Adam essay and DAMN.
I didn’t know you existed till it I saw it, but holy fuck did you nail this. Every single though I’ve had in defense of Adam, you mentioned—plus the one about having to potentially kill his own kids in Hell, which I hadn’t. Every time you made a point I thought I could object to or something you’d overlooked, you circled back and covered what I wanted to say. I especially loved your thoughts on what (perceived) insults actually get a rise out of him.
You nailed it all SO HARD, it’s so methodical and thorough and beautiful. Thank you.
The only thing I can think to add, you kind of covered there at the end: We know “the seraphim’s one rule” was not to tell anyone but the exorcists about the extermination. We’re never explicitly told that the exterminations were Adam’s idea. I think someone higher up gave him their dirty work, counting on his sense of responsibility, fear of getting kicked out, or residual anger toward Lilith/Lucifer to ensure he took the job and ran with it. Our boy got manipulated.
Oh, and how damaging would it be to someone’s ego to be literally the only man on earth, have Heaven tell you this woman was made specifically to be your mate, and have her say “Nah I’m out”? How much of his inflated ego is covering up for a wound that size?
I'm so glad you enjoyed the unexpectedly long essay! :D It makes me so happy that people have been enjoying it. Sorry it took so long to get to your response, I've been away for some time!
Oh yeah, for sure I do feel like he was manipulated in some regard. But, maybe Vivziepop will say otherwise! Who knows at this point, but I do love the speculation!
See, that's the thing, right? That's exactly what I see in his ego. Like... they were quite literally made for one another, they were made to be two pieces of a whole and then BAM, Lilith said n o p e. Which, that's all well within her rights, but you know that'll destroy anyone. It's kind of why I speculated that she was so angry that she'd been replaced by Eve. Who knows if she'd decided to leave for good, or if she left as a tactic to gain social control? People do things like that all the time and it would be an interesting storytelling aspect.
Or she would literally want anyone else. Oh the choices we have for writing!
You get where I was going though, thank you!
