hiiiii so im lowkey a music nerd and i was thinking about what type of music alice would listen to. i go on a very long ramble about alice but essentially the point of this ask is to ask ab your headcannons about reko's music taste/writing process, specifically in relation to alice's taste. the alice brainrot has me in a chokehold though so heres my long ramble: I think ive projected my own music taste on to alice a little bit. what i mean is i think alice, doing things behind the scenes, would also be into music production (i highly doubt this is cannon and i think what they meant by behind the scenes is booking shows and managing and such, but I LOVE MUSIC PRODUCTION OK) and i think he would listen to any music that is really well produced or well written. rekos mostly into alternative stuff, but alice has a deep love for pop. i feel like this can potentially come off as a "oh haha alice is super girly he listens to sabrina carpenter lols" thats not what i mean. this man listens to britney spears and one direction because of his sheer love for writing. (i wonder if this sort of thing could extend to kpop too because of how perfectly everything is executed, but i also dont know much about kpop so i cant say too much) he loves a well produced, well executed pop concept. obviously he's into mostly the same stuff reko would be as well, but i know less about the rock scene so i cant comment too much about that. hes definitely the type of guy to not be able to casually listen to the radio because he overanalyzes the mixing in all the songs and if something sounds off it drives him insane. also he totally has to hide his music taste from reko because reko's one of those people that hates pop music. i think that comes from a place of not liking her experience making pop music, but also from a place of being a snob. also being a woman in the alternative scene, i think holding on to pop influence or even admitting you like pop can undermine your hard earned credibility. i think alice's determination to achieve technical perfection in music would cause him and reko to argue a lot. i can just imagine them both in the studio and alice is like "reko can you sing a little softer you're peaking the mic" and rekos like LIKE HELL I AM!!! MUSIC IS SUPPOSED TO ME LOUD!!! and alice is like yOURE DISTORTING THE SOUND PLEASE STOP. or reko asks him to make a certain instrument louder and alice is like YOURE. THROWING. THE ENTIRE MIX. OFF. BALANCE. and rekos like WE NEED TO HEAR THE DAMN DRUMS. this could extend to lyrics too like reko comes up with a super edgy poetic lyric shes really proud of and alice is like "you could make this line a lot shorter, it would really tighten up the concept and rekos like DO YOU HATE ART. JUST SAY YOU HATE ART. so yeah overall they both have a passion for music but its just in two different ways. whats important for reko is expression of emotions and for alice its displaying technical skill in instruments, production, and writing. ugh i love them. anyways what are your headcannons for reko's music taste? and/or her writing process.

BAHAHA i love your interpretation of their arguments too. her not liking pop because snobbery + bad history + lack of credibility definitely hits the nail on the head. though i can definitely see her leaning samurai yaibas stuff towards pop despite her own desires, both to try and appease alice's music taste (he didnt ask for this) and her complex around needing to be a perfect successful band and thus resenting him (he didnt ask for this??)

admittedly i havent thought nearly as hard about alice's music taste as reko's. i definitely like the take that he's into a lot of mainstream pop, fits his diva aura. alice always gave me theater kid vibes so i could definitely see him being into a lot of musicals. whether or not he was an actor or worked backstage is up for interpretation; both work quite well for his character. you definitely bring up a good point as to whether alice was simply managerial or also invested into audio engineering. considering how many issues its implied reko made for their band, i definitely dont think its off the table. i do strongly believe reko knows nothing about audio engineering and doesnt even try to pretend otherwise. your interpretation of how alice fits into the creative process happens to conveniently fit within my recent consideration that samurai yaiba was probably more dance punk + pop-rock than a true punk band the way reko wouldve liked. alice does seem to pay quite a bit of attention to the inherent 'talent' and skill of musicians (possibly originated from exposure to reko's incessant pickiness and being a prodigy herself), so in addition to him listening to pop because of the high quality mixing and other aspects of sound production that arent as present in rawer punk genres (like interesting sound effects added in post/synth noises) i can imagine he really likes mainstream pop artists because he really appreciates powerful, exceptional singing voices, for example.

as for where reko and alices taste overlaps? i honestly feel like, especially as she got older, it got more and more different, which could contribute to the theme of alice feeling like reko getting more involved in music caused them to stray apart. raw, screaming punk lyrics that purposefully break the rules and use shitty mixing on purpsoe to create a feeling and throw all the ideas of 'pleasant music' out the window would be something that, given with the idea he likes sentimental and bombastic pop music, would be very foreign to him. he tries not to be judgemental about her taste but.... its alice. he sneaks some sass in there. and of course reko snaps rather than try and match his energy. ("reko, you cleaned the cd before you put it in the cd player, correct...?" "of course i did! who do you think youre talking to?! its supposed to sound like that! tsk!" or something along those lines.) i could probably say more, but thats my take for now :-)

oh boy.

alishin AU where theyre looking for a roommate and find one off craigslist because theyre desperate:

shin finally moved out of his parents but his income is shitty and unstable (like something like working on an indie game project with a couple other programmers) so hes scraping by living paycheck to paycheck. he realizes hes not gonna make enough this month to pay rent and panics, so he scours the internet and even checks craiglist. theres a decent amount of posts. he finds one thats phrased so weirdly he could swear it was a prank, and the suspiscious sounding name (gonbee yamada? really?) isnt helping, but he takes a chance and contacts the attached phone number anyway, among others. unfortunately the weirdo is the first one to respond and shin seriously needs someone who'll move in fast enough to cover the bill so now hes stuck with him. shin was hoping he maybe just had a typing quirk, but nope. this guy talks like a dungeon master in real life. thatsucksbutwhatever.net.

shin panics again when he sees him and wonders if this guy is actually someone he should be afraid of. hes actually kinda buff and he talks really loud and has this weird cocky attitude that kind of puts shin on edge. his hair is too colorful for him to just be some frat bro, not that shin would really want to live with a frat bro either, but he just doesnt know how to categorize him. shin cant sleep the night alice moves in and freaks out when he hears a shrill scream so loud it could shatter glass. shin gets all his courage to go look thinking his new roommate kidnapped some woman and murdered her in their living room only to see alice hiding behind the couch. shins like wtf and alice tries to play it cool like he didnt just get scared shitless over the spider smaller than shins thumbnail across the room. shin takes it out with a piece of paper and a glass and alice makes up some weird excuse about why he wasnt scared. shin decides hes a freak but a safe one. why does he keep telling him facts about japanese history when shin asks him to pass the salt. why does he keep saying his full name. why is his closet full of striped shirts. but also who cares because he helps with the rent and even is willing to cover more than 50% on the months when shin's inconsistent income is super low. shin can actually eat consistently instead of trying to make 1 cup ramen his meal for 3 days. he also seems to instinctively clean after shins messy ass apartment and alice always comes up to him with his arms crossed to tell him off but shins memory is terrible so he still always forgets to clean up after himself (especially during depressive or anxious slumps) and alice impulsively does it for him anyway. alice even cooks for them on occasion and theyre both pretty picky so it works out even if not eating enough vegetables is going to kick them both in the ass one day. shin tries to cook for him in return once and nearly burns down the entire apartment complex.

alice finds out shin plays video games after shin mentions hes a computer programmer so alice acts super high-and-mighty as per usual showing off his competitive streak like hes gonna win everytime as if his sister wasnt always better at video games than him. sou beats his ass. he beats him so hard he practically rips alice's ass off and hits him over the head with it. alice keeps insisting hes gonna win and they get no sleep until alice finally wins a match at 5 in the morning. alice and shin are something like friends at this point. alice eventually feels the need to fess up and tell sou the truth about why he was so desperate for a roommate himself; that after over 3 years of working as a hair stylist in prison combined with his savings, he could afford a good enough lawyer to reopen his case where he was incorrectly convicted of manslaughter and prove him innocent. he was obviously hesitant to bring this up (notably for the part where he faked his name on the craigslist ad) but feels he needs to get it off his chest so theyre not close under false pretenses. i cant imagine shin wouldnt feel at least a little betrayed by this, but i see him ultimately sympathizing with alices struggle and forgiving him. alice opens up a little more and mentions that hes trying to find away to reconnect with his sister, the famous reko yabusame, but because shes so famous cant find any way to contact her. shin comforts him but doesnt really have a way to help him directly. shin mentions he doesnt blame him for making up a name when hes related to someone so well known, and alice explains that wasnt really why.

more shenanigans ensue; their apartment buildings central heating gets busted in the middle of warmth and they have to cuddle for warmth. they keep being like oh yeah but of course i dont want to cuddle with you no noooo never. i would never. you better have your socks on.... not because youre cold but because i dont want this to be gay. in the morning they wake up and immediately separate like yep. were buddies. just two guys who almost roll off the edge of the bed trying to get space between them as quickly as possible after very heterosexually cuddling for warmth. in like two weeks in alice has given up on being the big spoon and shin doesnt want to let him go even get up to go to the bathroom. alice may or may be late to work a couple times because of this. theyve been cuddling for almost a month before alice finds the notice that says that the central heating has been fixed for a week already. they both immediately go back to sleeping alone and definitely definitely not struggling with it even a little bit. except for when alice has nightmares of course. or shin is feeling depressed. so... theyre mostly sleeping in separate beds now. mostly. but they still dont have any weird feelings for each other naturally. obviously.

eventually alice manages to find a way to meet up with reko. he was optimistic but it doesnt go that well. its not an outright rejection, but its too much for reko to process in the moment and she acts in a way that makes alice think hes dead to her. alice becomes depressed and dejected. shins turn to take care of him. a couple weeks pass and reko reaches out to him, clarifiying her real feelings on the situation. they have one of the most awkward hugs known to man. they dont go straight to being buddy buddy, but alices spirits are lifted and theyre on the path to really being siblings again, which is more than alice could ever ask for.

alice and shin go back to being dumbasses with eachother. shin wants to carry a box to put on the shelf. alice offers to help but shin refuses. shin proceeds to barely lift the box off the ground as he loudly heaves and sweats. alice asks if he needs help again. shin says no. alice watches him struggle for a couple more minutes before shin finally asks for help and alice puts it on the shelf instantly.

reko gets introduced to shin at some point. she sits him down and tells him, look. my brother is one of the stupidest people ive ever met. one time a girl (rekos crush) took off all her clothes off in front of him and he still didnt realize she was flirting with him which im definitely not still kind of pissed about. but he likes you. he really likes you. hes doing that stupid thing where he breaks into soliloquies about you when he thinks you cant hear him, he likes you. and you seem to like him. you need to tell him. you need to tell him directly or else you guys are gonna be married with four adopted children or whatever and hes still gonna think youre just friends and his love is unrequited. and hes gonna keep doing his monologues. in MY living room. so date him. please. shin agrees (with both of her points, might i add).

shin is trying to steel his resolve to actually approach and ask alice to be his boyfriend but is overthinking it and procrastinating hamlet style. to his surprise, alice takes him on an outing and confesses. at first he acts pompous as per usual but he starts struggling to get the words out and by the end his face is bright red. alice immediately regrets it and tries to go back on his word but shin interrupts him with his own feelings. before they can kiss theyre kicked out from wherever they are because alice was screaming the whole time and hes scaring the children there. the end

if youre wondering why it took me so long to answer its because i tried to rewrite the whole thing, didnt like the rewrite, and then couldnt decide which to upload so i settled on the (much sillier less plot consistent) original. i could probably combine the ideas from both but im lazy and i dont drop this and run right this minute i never will. sorry to anon who also requested i drop this au if youre reading this you were the victim for the rewrite so your ask is hidden in my drafts forever

i think reko changes her hair style and eyeliner every once in a while. i think the timing is pretty irregular (can be anywhere from a couple days apart to a year) but maybe every couple months on average. shes likes exploring personal expression. (this is inspired by her artbook character sheet which states in a throw away line that her eyeliner tears are something shes enjoyed doing "lately")

reko loves doing karaoke. whether or not she'll go out her way to ask depends on the person, though shes generally not very obnoxious about it despite it being one her favorite things to do with people.

i mentioned her being a caffeine addict, and while i dont think shes particularly picky, i think she generally goes for energy drinks a s opposed to tea / coffee / soda.

ive mentioned this somewhat, but i think reko probably did (or at least attempted to) pierce her own ears. she definitely had to re-pierce a couple times and i doubt all her cartilage piercings are her doing, though.

reko would be an amazing runner. she's on the taller side and she has great lung capacity from singing and dancing at the same time for years. she could run a mile in those heels, easy.

reko wears fake lashes on top of her mascara and thick eyeliner. she pulls out all the stops for her eye makeup.

i think when alice told his mother he didnt want to be raised as a girl anymore, he mustve done a closet purge of his particularly feminine pieces of clothing. also keep in mind he was going through puberty at the same time so naturally he was growing out of all his clothes anyway. this is all to say i think reko inherited a lot of feminine clothes as hand me downs and punk-ified them to her own tastes, and generally before their relationship was more strained if alice bought a piece of clothing and wasnt feeling it anymore, he could give it to reko who'd tailor (take chunks out of it with safety scissors like it was personal) it to her liking.

i guess this isnt so much a headcanon about her as it as about her family, but i imagine her mom as being pretty spiritual / esoteric. i think it feeds into the "weird but nice" thing, and also acts as an origin for rekos intense fear of ghosts; i think her mother probably whole-heartedly believed in ghosts and yokai and the like and would terrify baby reko and baby alice with stories of them. i see her grandmother as possibly being like that too, though i guess that connection is kind of random since grandparents aren't mentioned in either of the yabusames stories.

rekos guitar playing is probably self-taught. alice taught her piano and though her father pushed her into "the" industry (it was never quite obvious which one) i doubt it would be a genre where reko would be using even an acoustic guitar herself, let alone an electric guitar (though its not impossible depending on the genre).

reko has a secret stash of fluffy things (pajamas, plushies, a blanket or two) and this is something shell take to her grave. its not a lot and she refuses to buy more of them but theres always the temptation. she specifically likes the ones with long fur.

reko doesnt feel cold easily, but if you were to touch her, shes freezing. she just doesnt notice it.

rekos sleep schedule is fucked, or at least it used to be. some combination of always drinking unholy amounts of caffeine + long music practices she never cuts short + getting distracted writing new songs + going to concerts at night because she never has time during the day, and boom. no sleep. if she doesnt remind herself to, shell turn herself into the russian sleep experiment by accident and then wonder why she cant stop snapping at everyone no matter how hard she tries.

i think reko would have a soft spot for reading poetry. even though she can speak in a pretty rough manner, i think she definitely has the capacity for more dramatic, sincere, flowery language and to appreciate it. shes a decent lyricist but i think composing the instrumentals comes more naturally to her, so part of her interest is out of desire to improve.

reko doesnt really like wearing dresses, despite being fine with other types of feminine clothes. skirts? sure. shorts? yeah, shell wear those. but dresses...? no. give her her scissors so she can cut it into a two piece at least, please.

reko and alice didnt have any pets as kids. i know this one but dont ask me how. even as an adult, reko isnt that much of a pet person- shes very busy with her band doesnt really have time to care for an animal, even if she wanted to.

i go back and forth with myself about this, but i think reko is pretty impartial about outdoors vs indoors. shes not exactly a camper and most of her preferred activities can be done just as good if not better inside, but she really doesnt mind getting dirty or messing up her clothes and loves a chance to run around.

reko seems like the type to be a little too blunt on accident and then feel bad about it later.

i think reko is both extremes where she either wont think about something at all or shell completely overthink it. she can have really impulsive tendencies simply because she knows she doesnt have the time to think about it for as long as she always ends up doing.

i think reko has a tendency to stare into space, which freaks people out, especially because shell zone out so hard itll look like shes staring at someone but shes completely tuned out. it doesnt help that she doesnt blink as often as she should.

hello anon . IM SO SORRY ITS BEEN LIKE A WEEK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i got really caught up with school and havent had time to sit down and type this out ... hmm.. no, i dont think you did anon. ursheen and reko, yes, but not naoreko. luckily for you, i also have a very bad memory, so we can just forget and rewrite the whole thing together. no need to worry, you're a very nice hc anon. lets see what i can think up...

most of this is fluffy stuff, set in some sort of no death game au. hope you dont mind (hey, who knows, naoreko headcanons deathgame edition could be a whole other request).

my interpretation of naoreko is very much based on the side content; reko being someone who gets flustered easily, with nao being surprisingly forward and unapologetic about her attraction to reko. though i dont think its always intentional on nao's part- sometimes she just blurts things out, without realizing how they sound to others. nao isnt so much "flirty" as she is an open book. if she wants to kiss, she'll probably let her crush know, and probably not on purpose. she has this line when shes talking to sara which is a big part of where my interpretation of this comes from. i think nao is just a very straightforward person that way. its a very funny + underrated character trait of hers.

that isnt to say i dont have things i drawn from the actual game, too- though i do wish we had more actual naoreko scenes rather than just the implication that nao and reko were close off-screen, at least during chapter 2. but thats kind of a side tangent.

i really enjoy interpretations that reko has infodumping tendencies. i dont think its hard for her to go on long rants about music, whether that be an album she just binged, a song shes working on, general comments / reflections on entire genres, all using technical language someone whos not super involved with music would probably never had heard of. shes pretty good about not springing this onto people unexpectedly, and is pretty good about checking in on the other person in the conversation. when it comes to naoreko, i imagine nao trying to get reko to rant about her passion fullheartedly, only for reko to usually have to backtrack because she didnt realize how it sounds to a non-musician.

of course, nao encourages her to talk about this kind of thing regardless, because she loves seeing reko go in depth about something she enjoys. but reko prefers the conversation to not get too one-sided, so she doesnt always indulge nao on this. reko could overthink a music piece for hours.

i think reko is very much the type of person to support and appreciate other artists. this is obvious when shes listening to other musicians, of course, but applies to other mediums too; i think shed really like nao's art and always be trying to get her hands on prints of them. nao likely didnt even produce a lot of prints until reko pushed her because she wanted to be able to appreciate her girlfriends art. the first piece reko ever mentioned wanting a copy of, nao reproduced a replica by hand. reko almost cried when she found out.

reko is a very busy person, but she also really values spending time with people. nao has puppy eyes that could level buildings with their sheer influence. this is to say, reko finds herself packing as many dates into her schedule as she can handle because she can rarely get herself to say no to nao. luckily for her, shes usually the one initiating, but even so, her work-life balance can get really hectic.

ive mentioned i interpret nao as a fandom kid and i stand by that. at the very least, she has a couple of "childish" or nerdy interests, like rewatching her favorite childhood shows or being really into cozy video games like animal crossing, stardew valley, the pokemon games, etc. shes very nervous to reveal this at first, but when she does, reko is pretty supportive. nao enjoys listening to reko rant, but doesnt realize it goes the other way too. they start to play video games together at some point, i think. nao manages to take reko to at least one convention (reko would be willing to go to more, but again, her schedule). she probably has to do something sneaky to make it work, like making sure she has a concert in the same city as the convention venue on the same day.

while reko has a lot to say about music, i think her aversion to one-sided conversations means that isnt what they talk about a lot of the time. while of course reko doesnt mind, it does mean shes out of her comfort zone, showcasing her more awkward and flustered side. reko is a virtusuo, a master in her field, and could talk other band nerds out of town, but.... shes spent practically her entire life in the music scene. she was never in it to make friends, but even if she was, her knowledge is specialized. while its not like shes not had friends before, she does have this kind of awkward energy around it, especially when shes in the presence of a pretty girl she likes. she knows how to act cool, but only from a distance.

nao, on the other hand, doesnt try to feign coolness at all. but shes so direct about certain things, she inadvertently gives off an unaffectable aura, which just makes reko even more flustered in comparison.

i think rekos intense love of music is part of why reko is so accepting of naos "strange" hobbies; sure, being really into music is seen as maybe a little less strange depending on who you ask, but she understands having hobbies youre really invested in and know a lot of facts about.

i imagine reko has a bit of a serious streak- she can see things in a very dramatic way, even if they dont seem that important to other people. this can lead to her getting worked up in her head about minor issues. i think naos tendency to blurt out strange things on occasion would take reko off guard in more ways than one, and snap her out of whatever funk shes in. similarly, her lighthearted hobbies compared to rekos (which are partially tied to both her identity and livelihood) give her a little refuge from the stuff she usually spends so muhc energy fretting on. its not things reko would have ever gotten into herself because shes got such a one-track mind, but with nao in her life, she ends up getting a healthy spoonful of sillyness and goofiness in her life she didnt realize she was lacking.

imaging them go out in public for dates is pretty funny to imagine. nao generally seems very approachable when shes out by herself, and its something that can make her nervous to go out. but she doesnt have this problem when shes around reko. reko, both unintentionally and very often intentionally, will stink eye anyone she even thinks looks at nao weird. this can bring up issues, but is typically a net positive.

of course theres the issue of meeting fans in public- not that reko minds signing autographs, but she definitely doesnt want to have to deal with that when shes out with her girlfriend. they tend to rarely go out for that reason.

karaoke dates. need i say more?

mishima and reko have a small rivalry that usually goes over naos head. nao is someone that makes reko feel pretty vulnerable (in a good way for once in her life), so she can get a little defensive when shes around others and nao at the same time; especially if its someone whos also close to nao. this is mostly harmless, as mishima is very mature and has a good sense of where to draw the line even if he indulges the rivalry just a bit; but rekos habitual jealousy is probably something her and nao have a serious conversation about at some point.

i dont think it comes up very often, but nao is more than willing to protect her girlfriend if need be, despite reko usually being the one scaring people off with her presence. should any one try to push reko on a boundary, like a fan complaining about not being able to take a picture with her or something along those lines, nao will jump in before reko can even respond. nao can be surprisingly intimidating when she goes from 1 to 60 like that. even if reko feels she doesnt need it, i think she still appreciates it a lot.

reko is usually too bashful to purposely initiate physical affection, but there are exceptions. there are times where she'll gain enough courage to attempt to coolly throw an arm around naos shoulders or hug her from behind. the chances she actually manages to keep that up have somewhere between a 60-70% success rate.

nao enjoys clothes swapping to the point where reko keeps getting naos clothes mixed into her own dresser and closet.

i think theyd have really lighthearted "sleepover" type dates every now and then. build pillow forts, do each others make up. reko really enjoys playing with naos hair and does it almost unconciously, especially if theyre cuddling while watching a movie or something.

nao is a plushie hoarder and keeps trying to offer her plushies to reko. nao forces reko to learn all her plushie lore. reko feeds her addiction because now everytime she sees a cute plushie she thinks of nao and has to buy it for her.

speaking of, reko would probably have a fairly decent income. reko buying nao new games she thinks she would like or limited edition figurines is probably pretty common for her. nao, who is the starving artist stereotype, always gets blown away by this.

i can see them getting matching jewelry of some kind. reko wears a lot of accessories and likes having at least one that reminds her of nao.

such a wild card on nankidais case honestly. bongos of all instruments. the line "they were just a normal set of bongos you could get anywhere..." rings out in my mind everyday. but theyre reko related and i can be insane about anything reko related.

she obviously uses them mostly for sentimental reasons. alice couldve given her a goddamn jar of mayonnaise and she wouldve made it work (you can convince yourself shes not corny but real reko truthers know she was born on the cob). but artistically, theres a lot to draw from them here. assuming skullnutz is a guitar-heavy, screaming punk band, the light acoustic sound of the bongos is actually a pretty good way to break up all the harsh, low noises from the bass guitar and typical drumset. i like heavy metal and punk myself when i listen to it, but admittedly, sick guitar riff after sick guitar riff can blend into one easily. theres actually a folk metal band ive been listening to recently that uses the traditional dhor drum similarly.

it also brings me into a theory i have pertaining to her preference for jazz. i know ive written a rant about her preference for certain genres before but that was months ago so i cant remember if that actually made it out of my drafts. regardless, ive been thinking about this more since. i think, coming from the perspective of someone who was forced to write formulaic pop songs and hated it, the chaotic improvisional nature of jazz would be really nice to listen to. jazz also happens to be one of the few musical genres besides traditional cuban music that uses the bongos relatively often [to my knowledge], so theres inspiration to be had there.

theres also the connection between bongos and like, spoken poetry, but i might stretching it a bit there.

most of my ideas on her are based on canon, so ive never considered them outlandish enough to call headcanons, but i guess technically pretty much all of my rants about her could be sorted as such, since they try to build on what we already know and extrapolate an analysis. i have too many to list. ill try to compile some here, though. longer ones are under the cut.

i moreso stole this headcanon then made it but i agree that reko cant cook for shit. she lives off takeout and stuff she burnt in the microwave, much to her protective older brother's dismay.

i believe reko was putting on her makeup and styling her hair every morning in chapter 2. again, i stole this one.

i think reko would be really good at video games

reko would be very good at ice skating

despite being good at drawing her eyeliner, i dont think she can draw very well on paper.

reko paints her nails sometimes (she likes the smell) but its always chipped somehow, even if she just painted them.

she doesnt have an extensive (if any) skin care routine (thats more her brothers thing) but she does have a hair care routine after almost frying off all her hair several times trying to bleach it herself. she only dyes her bangs now but she still takes good care of her hair (especially with the way she has to style it everyday).

reko is either out of the bathroom in 2 seconds or she takes an hour because she gets distracted and starts messing with her hair or makeup. it used to drive alice crazy when they both lived with their parents. not now alice, you can go shit in the bushes, reko is using her eyeliner as face paint.

reko tries not to do this when shes working on new songs, but shes the type of person who almost always listening to some kind of music. she loves finding new music and new subgenres.

shes not really a messy person but shes not very neat, either. she usually has trash slowly building up somewhere. nothing 15 minutes of panic cleaning cant fix, but its there.

i think reko made / makes a lot of her own punk clothes and accessories, and generally has frugal habits around her style. it started when she was a teen because her rebelliousness and delinquency led to her being perpetually grounded, so no allowance. shes awful at customer service so she couldnt really get an entry level job. her music wasnt really marketable and she probably didnt have her own band in her younger teens ( i think samurai yaiba was probably only started when she was about to or already graduated high school) so there wasnt much if any income from there. she may have done some odd jobs but they didnt pay much and she was intimidating to people, so it was hard to get gigs. all this led to her getting good at sewing, dying, bleaching and otherwise making her own clothes. probably owns a bunch of pins, studs, and zippers in bulk just to sew onto stuff. i think the same thing applies to her make up- she uses fancier water / sweat proof on stage, but off stage? dollar store eyeliner and foundation. she doesnt care about the risks, she goes through her make up too fast to bother with the fancy stuff.

reko has an impressive memory generally, but when she struggles with it, she makes little songs or rhymes to help her remember (she did this to sometimes help her speed memorize for tests in school. then, she had to whisper-sing it under her breath and swing her foot to the beat and itd be all you could hear in the test room, and shed either get in trouble or just be really embarrassed).

speaking of school, i dont think reko went to college or post secondary school; in ytts theres a whole thing about her hating school. but aside from that, the timing would be really tight. shes canonically 23, samurai yaiba was 2 1/2 years ago, so she wouldve been 20-21, and you graduate high school at 18. i cant say i know a lot about japanese college, but if it has the same status of degrees as in the US, it wouldnt really make sense for her to have gone to college- she was likely a drop out or never went in the first place.

i think reko has some burner account(s) where she dumps experimental music. its not always avant garde, but she likes playing with different genres. the problem is they keep escaping containment, even though shes embarrassed by them and thinks theyre all shit. no one can know about her breakcore album with 6 million views that she made while she was drunk and garage band crashed halfway through so theres weird chunks missing and distorted audio. no one. no one can know about the ska music made. god, not the ska.

reko has theater kid energy to me (both the yabusames do), but i doubt she was ever in any productions. her band/orchestra vibes are stronger and thats probably what she wouldve devoted all her time to instead. maybe, like, one musical, but she mightve not gotten the role she wanted and immediately quit. if she was, she drove everyone up a wall cause she was so hard to work with. shes a natural but she never shows up to any practices and is so easy to piss off, especially during the acting portions. skipping practice isnt a big deal to her because she can memorize things quickly, but it screws all the other actors up. she just isnt a team player (or rather, reko really wasnt a team player in highschool).

reko is a caffeine addict. she has overworking tendencies and i (used to) headcanon her as someone who abstains from alcohol / drugs / etc, so she resorts to coffee instead.

speaking of- i used to strongly believe reko wouldnt be the type to smoke or drink, specifically because i misinterpreted a line she said about her father ('hes not the best at staying true to his convictions, and gives into temptation') as being about addiction, when it was probably just supposed to be about her dad giving into the temptation of trying to make reko famous. looking back on it, thats closer to canon, and with the stress of being in the spotlight at such an early age and her self described 'delinquent phase' it makes a lot of sense to headcanon her as being a smoker or using other stimulants. i still think that you could possibly interpret her dad as having started doing those things at some point once they had surplus money from rekos early career, and i like the details that adds to her character; her trying to rebel from the industry not just out of a growing hate for it from being forced to do it, but also a wake up call for her father and hoping maybe hell stop if she refuses to be an idol anymore. her partially being so high strung later on because she never lets herself off the hook or resorts to substances that could calm her down.

i strongly believe reko has no idea how to actually be friends with people. like, yeah, when you talk to her during discussions she holds conversation pretty well and its not as if people dont want to be her friend or even that shes bad at it- its just that she has no experience. she doesnt know what shes doing. during pretty much the entirety of her developmental years, she was either getting forced into music stuff she didnt wanna do by her father or doing the music stuff she did wanna do. probably the only people she hung out with, if at all, were people she could hop the fence with to skip, and they werent really friends. alice even states himself that she had a habit of pushing people away and was alone.

in the same vein, alice may have dated more people than his far more charismatic sister. i refuse to drop this headcanon because its funny as hell. alice comes off strong, which you think would be a deterrent, but a lot of people are into that. its not as if reko doesnt, herself, but.... she has to deal with sheeping and girls thinking theyre just friends on top of that. moreover, i dont see reko as a flirty person- a lot of side content involves her getting flustered in some way. reko has an awkward flustered streak and it doesnt come out often but when it does it comes out strong, and its easy to find if you know where to look, so to speak. i mean, did you see the way she talked to nao on the 2f landing?
