Mevolent and the Obsidian Blade

UtE Spoilers under the cut.

Turns out that Mevolent didn’t only find the Obsidian Blade, he was actually the one to forge it. 

“Quietus held up his part of the deal, and the Unnamed sent Mevolent to the Void World, where he found the so-called Void meteorite with the obsidian core. Mevolent extracted the obsidian and used some of the meteorite to form a handle.”

“Then Mevolent came back home and stabbed the Unnamed with it.”

“Yes, he did. Approximately sixty years later, one of Mevolent’s subordinates stole the Obsidian Blade, planning to kill Mevolent himself and take over. He died – in an accident, apparently – and the blade was lost until 1865 when it was used to kill a sorcerer in Turkey. From there, it made its way through the underworld, bought and sold on the black market, until it came into the possession of Assail Devon, and then Omen Darkly, and then Auger – at which point it transformed him into Obsidian

Ngl I’m having mixed feelings on this.

🖤 First things first: design. I have issues imagining how a handle of meteorite would look like. The meteorites I’ve seen all have a bit of orange-red mixed into the stone which apparently is rusted metal? I’m not sure if the void meteorite would have that or if the obsidian would have taken the place of the metal in this setting. Would be cool if it hadn’t bc the red-grey meteorite stone would go nicely with the red glow of my version of the Obsidian Blade. Also I like the idea of Mevolent manipulating the metal so it flows out of the veins running through the stone and forms the quillion. I mean, how sick would that look??

🖤 I guess this kinda confirms the headcanon about Mev having been a blacksmith apprentice pre-Unnamed that I’ve stolen from someone else (forgot who). I’d imagine it would take a master blacksmith and mastery over the elements to be able to refine the obsidian and form the meteorite into a handle. Especially since I assume Mev didn’t have much time to forge the blade before the Unnamed would grow suspicious. What a delicious show of skill and craftsmanship <3

Just the mental image of Mev using his elemental powers to form obsidian and  meteorite into a dagger, I just... I’d fucking love to see this animated, that’s just like pure FX p0rn <3333

🖤 On one hand I didn't expect Mev to have been the one to forge the most powerful Godkiller Weapon, considering others were forged by the Faceless Ones and the Ancients. I guess that’s cool?

😠 On the other hand, that makes Auger being the Chosen One and the one to kill the Unnamed feel even more undeserved after Mevolent went through all that scheming and planning, travelled through Dimension for who-knows-how-long, torturing, negotiating and bribing people to finally find someone who knew where the void metroid was. Then get the Unnamed to get the location for him and then he even had to forge the blade himself. And all Auger had to do was to have someone else find it for him and stab the Unnamed with it.

“But Auger has trained his whole life for this!” And? So did Mevolent. Just that Mev had the added stress to be trained by the Unnamed. Considering Mev wanted him dead his way of getting trained was very likely a lot less gentle and Mev had to hide his contempt the entire time, praying the Unnamed didn’t suspect a thing. Mev killing the Unnamed was also something personal and not just bc of some old-ass prophecy.

But then the Unnamed survived getting stabbed by Mev, after all the effort he went through. And after all the pain the Unnamed had presumably caused Mev and everyone else around him. And Augers five second fight actually kills the Unnamed after he had just gotten done beating the living hell out of Mev (bc apparently Landy decided to make this plotline extra insulting to Mev).

😠 Aaaand it makes the fact that it broke right after the Unnamed got killed (presumably bc it had full-filled it’s purpose now) even more a slap in the face. Landy just gotta destroy all lingering influences Mev has on the world, doesn’t he? Just so he can prop up his shitty new phase 2 characters no one gives a damn about anyways.

Sometimes I think back to the first time I read KoTW and just laugh like an idiot at Mevolent's energy. Darquesse, the breaker of worlds rocks up. And what does Mevolent do? Why, he produces a BIG EFFING SWORD. The business attitude is off the scale

Tbf Mevolent has killed the Unnamed, another world breaker, before that so he went into that fight like 'I had worse', since he could tell by her reaction that the Godkiller Sword is going to work on her.

Talking of Godkillers, imagine instead of sending things to other Dimensions it just sucked them in and trapped them there. We could have had a plotline where the blade breaks and rereleases the Unnamed along with a few other monstrosities'.

Also for some reason I just think it's really funny how before the fight Mevolent exposition dumped the Godkiller Swords’ lore on Darquesse like that's an appropriate time and place. Landy just straight up chose the big bad as an exposition dump, I can't-

On the other side, it makes Mev seem kinda nerdy (which I think is endearing) and like the kind of person that starts explaining stuff if someone has a completely puzzled look on their face. He can put complicated matters into simple words, which makes him the exact opposite of Nef, who talks in jargon like everybody has the same level of expertise as him and normal people just straight up can't understand him so Mev sometimes has to translate what Nef is trying to say into normal English.

Tbh we don't need a Grimoire, we just need Mev lmao!

Also, we were robbed of Mev exposition dumping about the Unnamed in the most petty and passive-aggressive way imaginable! :’/

btw how did the Obsidian Blade break? like, that seemed super random. It's supposed to be the most powerful godkiller, why would putting it in someone's neck break it?

also. is that ugly as fuck sword Skul is holding supposed to be the Obsidian Blade?

did Percival just deadass put an Obsidian gem in there instead of making it an actual obsidian blade? 

having the actual blade be obsidian would have made more sense bc obsidian blades made from volcanic glass are 4 times sharper than surgical steel (x), obsidian blades/knifes are ancient and date back to the stone age and are known to have been used in Maya rituals as well (and ritual circumcisions in the Middle East).

also, having a blade made out of black volcanic glass would also be metal af, change my mind you can’t
