I know the reasons are stated, but may I ask in what way don't you care for the military? Like, are you indifferent towards them or are you anti-military altogether?
I kinda had a feeling i would get an ask relating to this after reblogging that post. I pretty much just agree with the main points of that post. I don’t have anything against people who choose to serve. I do think our military is over glorified/sensationalized and I don’t necessarily agree that everyone who serves is automatically due the epitome of respect and admiration. People go into the military just like people go into other careers. It’s a choice. They chose to go into a job with amazing benefits, free school options, and a pretty great retirement if they follow it all the way through. Are they risking their lives on the battlefield? Some of them, yes. But this is something that they chose to do, and I honestly believe that 90% of the people that join the military aren’t doing so because of some great patriotic desire to serve. The U.S. government has made some atrocious military policies and moves and tbh it’s just all over glorified and blindly admired. I’m sure there are some wonderful people in various branches of the military, but overall I find the whole construct rather corrupt.
The biggest problem is that we Americans are fed this story our whole lives that the greatest thing we can do for our country is serve and fight for our military. It’s this patriotic extremist sort of mindset that we should pick up arms and violently defend our country and aggressively police other countries that we have no business policing or getting involved in whatsoever, and then because of this “you have to support the military” mindset people are force-fed all their lives nobody says anything and that sends the message to our government that they can get away with it, and so they are literally sending children off to war for their own selfish desires and these powerful people are making choices that are literally sending thousands of people to their death, and I don’t just mean Americans, so that they can control this valuable plot of land because it has X valuable resource and we need a reason to take it. So yeah, all in all Im not a very big fan of the military.
