“Cris,” she said softly, stretching out a hand to rub his back, but pulling it away quickly when she realized what she was doing. Instead she sat next to him awkwardly, hovering between staying and leaving. She felt a wrench in her gut at his question. Sora had only met her a handful of times, but an odd suspicion lurked in the back of her mind. Sora knew full well that the two of them were both fae, and though the discussion had never been brought up, Sora thought she knew what kind of fae the girl was, if her magic sensing was correct that is. She said nothing to Cris. Perhaps that would be more painful.
“I’d say, there was no good reason,” she told him truthfully, “Do you want to talk about it?”
Replaying everything in his head, Cris felt his heart drop once again. He just didn’t understand it and she gave him no chance to ask any more questions. Even as he pleaded and begged for her to stay, he could see she wasn’t listening anymore. There was no more light in her eyes as she looked up at him, and it was almost like she didn’t feel anything at all. She made it seem like leaving him was the easiest thing in the world, meanwhile the man was slowly coming undone.
“I think talking to you will make me feel better.” He finally said, tearing his face from his hands slowly. “She didn’t even give me a reason. Not a good one at least. Not something I could be satisfied with.” Looking out towards the horizon, he clenched his fist and folded his arms. Cris was hurting and confused and seeing Sora was the only thing keeping him together at the moment. At times like this he needed someone to rely on, and Sora always was his favorite person. They understood each other well.
“But you know what she did tell me.” Turning to look at her, Cris took a deep breath before speaking again. “She said she was a fae of misfortune. That it was what she did....and that was all she said.”
Cris had met and known many fae throughout his youth. Although they were all different, most of the ones he befriended taught him that they all weren’t tied to their nature. That no matter what they were born from or in charge of, it didn’t dictate who they were as people. And it was unfair to judge them all as such. But Noyna...she was misfortune. And it seems the only reason she was with him, was to bring him just that. “She didn’t want to stay, Sora...no matter what I said.” Clenching his fist once more, he looked down at the space between them before turning his gaze back to her. He was in so much pain.
“She made it seem so easy, tossing me aside like I was worthless....is there something wrong with me?”
