"Very well," Pasqal responds, his voice becoming as neutral and emotionless as before. "I will admit that the presence of others can inhibit true open communication." A single mechadendrite extends and reaches toward her hand, the tip flickering with pink electricity. "Perhaps you should take my hand. It is my understanding that human-human contact helps facilitate emotional connection." Amity eyes the act curiously, but does not outright deny it. "Do you want me to grab your mechadendrite?" She tilts her head slightly, eyes on the machine, "Or your actual hand?" "Is there a difference?" Pasqal's voice is emotionless, but there is a hint of joy in his eyes. The mechadendrite seems to move slightly, shifting its grip so that the tip rests against her palm. "I have modified my neural pathways to process mechanical stimuli as physical sensation. I can tell the difference between something touching my mechadendrites and something touching my hands, it should feel the same." Amity's eyes run up the mechadendrite to Pasqal's face, locked on the one human eye. She pauses for a moment, deciding what to do, hovering there with the metal in her palm. After a few moments, her fingers wrap around the mechadendrite, holding the cold metal gently. "I have not had the opportunity to form a genuine connection with a human for many years," Pasqal confesses, his voice growing softer. "I appreciate the gesture of friendship you are offering me." His expression softens, the mechadendrite on his back twisting slightly at the touch. As Amity grips the mechadendrite a little tighter, she can feel an unfamiliar sensation, a rush of pleasure as the Mechadendrite releases a small electric pulse from its surface.

Okay so I'm doing Cringetober, but I accidentally did the one from 2023. I'm too deep in to go back, now. So I'm just using that one akdfjshfd.

Lord Captain: "How do others on the ship treat you?" Vox Master Vigdis: "We look, speak and move differently from inhabitants of the planetary worlds. Our way of life, traditions and quirks frighten these people just like the darkness of the cosmos. Many believe us to be the bringers of ill fortune, and alas, it is voidborn who get blame for terrible warp phenomena during longer voyages." Vigdis hesitates before continuing. "Several years ago, an unfortunate warp jump caused all the food on board to spoil. Fifteen days later, a hungry and furious crew nearly massacred everyone on the lower decks, blaming us for the misfortune and hoping to restock the larders with our flesh. I would have been killed during the mutiny had Idira Tlass not shown up in the right place at the right time. She came to my rescue, and the scoundrels' fear of her was even greater than their fear of the voidborn." Lord Captain: "Looks like you are close friends with Idira." Vox Master Vigdis: Webs of tiny wrinkles appear at the corners of Vigdis's eyes — the only hint that the Vox Master is smiling. "The voidborn seldom make friends, especially among the captain's entourage. But you see, many consider Idira to be… different. I am different, too. We have spent plenty of time in each other's company, discussing regicide over a glass of amasec. Except Idira changed after one… incident, and we started to drift apart. The death of Lord Captain Theodora made her withdraw even more. I do not know if Idira considers me her friend now, but we used to be very, very close. It is good I can still look after her… in my own way." Interpreting the Vox Master's emotions based on half a face and a vox-modulated voice is no easy task, but you manage to catch the undercurrent in Vigdis's words. The Vox Master is not merely saddened by her rift with Idira, she is devastated by it.
