Aaaah since Arachne has been introduced on the askblog, now I can show you her design! (I have made all of Perseus’ friends way back in May lmao) and this time we also have some semblance of gameplay! Yippee!

Arachne starts with two items, one passive and one active. Also she starts every run in the Cellar, but that’s way less annoying for her lmao.

This is her passive item, Spider Brooch. Grants a Bursting Sack effect with the added bonus of turning every Spider into a Blue Spider instead (Arachne also has a little chance to charm any spider-themed enemy with this item)

This is her active item! It has a 12 room charge, but has different effects based on the number of charges it has when used

3 charges: spawns a large number of blue spiders (8-12)

6 charges: the blue spiders become permanent (like Apollyon’s locusts) and now deal 2.5 damage per tick. These permanemte spiders are now purple like her cape.

12 charges: all the spiders (both blue and purple) get killed Sacrificial Altar style, leaving behind pickups (including chests and trinkets) for half the spiders killed. Example: you have 12 spiders, you get 6 pickups if you sacrifice them. If you have a certain number of spiders (I was thinking 20+) instead of pickups you get an item from the current room item pool. The quality of the item is based on the number of spiders you had.

Okay so. Arachne. She’s the first kid that ever ventured in the Basement, after losing a competition against Athena and then hanging herself. Still, she’s quite satysfied with the little life she managed to carve for herself in the Basement. Down there she learned quite a few new things like talking to spiders. Until Perseus came down after her, it was just Arachne and her eight-legged friends.

Being in the Basement for so long has changed her body considerably. As shown in the picture, she doesnt have any arms, the cape is her arms. She uses it to manipulare objects and move around, usually without the help of her legs (now mostly useless anyway). You can usually see her gliding about without making any sound. The rope around her neck can be used to manipulate objects too, but she doesn’t really feel comfortable with it.

She acts much older than her age and before Hector came, she was the unofficial leader of the group, and while the two still butt heads sometimes, they get along pretty well. Despite being able to live alone, she’s overjoyed to have so many people around her and soon started to refer to them as her family. Perseus and Marsyas are still her favorites, but only because they’ve spent so much time together.

2) Tea, coffee, hot chocolate or other?

Hot chocolate with all the fixins’! She adores sweets and nearly always had it on tap, and she had two young apprentices who weren’t really fans of coffee or tea to boot. Her ideal mix is housemade - finely grated white & dark chocolate, dutched cocoa, toasted sugar, malt & espresso powder, vanilla and a bit of salt. Always with whipped cream & sometimes with a dash of caramel sauce or peppermint extract to her cup, if she’s in the mood. She initially brought it from home in Floralia, and continued to have it made & restocked regularly where she lived afterward.

4) What do they consider to be an unforgivable action? Why?

Because of the weirdness of craft witch ethics and such, she takes the idea of bringing something with sapience into the world very seriously. With that in mind, she wouldn’t deign to think of using another being as a plaything, controlling or possessing them, even if it’s a widely practiced form of magic back home. She loathes the concept and believes it to be morally reprehensible. Not that anyone she knows would do something like that,,
