This is Kulon, the main character of a story I'm working on called The Laceration Rite. His color palette was based on the milionia paradisea moth.
Hired as a steward on an elite, long-run ferry ship, he struggles to adjust and maintain his autonomy in an environment that actively erases him. He's a man of few, very blunt words, unless he's telling a story to stave off long nights at sea. He has a perfectly healthy and normal obsession with making knives. And sea glass, which he definitely doesn't try to eat. He's also a thrill-seeking little shit.
Kulon is Miilonga, a coastal ethnic minority within his species. An anecdote...Teen Kulon, frustrated with his parents’ refusal to let him work on the deep sea ships like other boys his age, made off with one of the boats in his village one day. His wanderlust got the better of him, and he travelled quite a ways. On a jerryrigged canoe that was NOT meant for deep sea travel. He miraculously didn't die or get hurt, seeing as he had some survival skills, but he did become hopelessly lost. His family panicked and the village sent out search parties. They even alerted the coast guard. They found him of course, and he got into a world of shit when he was safely returned. Grounded for a year. It was completely worth it to him. Why wouldn't they let him on the ships? Don't worry about it.
