Genesis, “fated to an eternity of very flawed and frivolous mistakes”. Remind me of the greek pantheon, kind of. A suitable summary for them as well, at least. It’s been a while, but nobody in the world, no matter how much more they know, could ever convince me those guys act like proper grown-ups. (Another thing I love: Why learn from your actions when you are never the one suffering the consequences?).

I remember Senros’ mirror invention and Cassandra’s reaction to it, haha. My only thought at the time was: “You’d need a heck of a giant magnet to make that thing viable along great distances, Senros." Which brings us back to Dagna. She would be for it. 100%. And the day they try to test that gigantic magnet in the valley beneath Skyhold will be a very memorable day for the Inquisition forces. And anyone else wearing or handling any kind of metal objects in their vicinity.

But how far would Senros go to find this “loyal man” to replace his aged eyes and ears? Considering how far he has gone already. Would he find someone willing to stay with him out of free will? And if it was Theon, would it really be free will or rather mutual dependency? (As far as I understood it is already, but this situation would be even worse for both, I’d wager.)

There are moments Senros and at places his relationship with Theon really remind me of Penny Dreadful’s depiction of a young Frankenstein. They are not the same, of course, and if I’d known Senros/Theon first the comparison would be the other way around. If you ever get the chance to see it, I’d really be interested in your opinion on it - independent of Senros and Theon.

I don’t catch all posts, but when I do they usually stick. :) How did Adaia die? Did you already write about that at one point? And oh dear, oh god, I need to stay away from Zevran. I am no good for that poor character. He either ends up dead in my game or I plant nasty assassination plots for him in other people’s head! The thing is: I really like him? But it was always so hard for me to really get to know him without romance and meta gaming. So he usually ends up dead. Thank goodness for you guys actually writing for him and keeping him ali ... no. Wait. dammit

How does this magic work?

If I understood it right, in your Thedas, the fade is not the only source of magic, only the source of one possible kind of magic? In Bioware’s Thedas, the world is something of a sorry byproduct of Solas’ actions: Unmoving, broken, like a dying animal that has almost lost any connection to it’s “soul” - the fade. The latter, in it’s original state, is the realm of possibilities, power, deities, the “real” realm and the way it should be - or the way it should be according to Solas’ memories. It’s kind of unbalanced in favor of the fade - the place where the cool stuff happens. And the conflict between the two realms does not go beyond “Solas messed it up.”.

Your Thedas gives me the impression of two equal worlds clashing, if magic and it’s diversity is taken as measurement. Not unlike the Witcher’s “Conjunction of Spheres” in a way. Both worlds have their source of power, their source of magic. There is room for coexistence but also conflict. It takes the emphasis away from the whole Elven pantheon drama a bit and gives the impression of an even bigger universe, in which even those elven gods are just a footnote.

In the story of how Theon’s resurrection came to be, Senros reminds me a bit of Penny Dreadful’s Frankenstein. I feel sorry for both, actually. Theon happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time very often and Senros is always one step away from becoming a monster - unwillingly or not. It seems he really needs good folk, more conservative folk around him (Cassandra, Varric or someone who just prods him and reminds him of reality like Theon). Otherwise he will loose himself and that might result not only in applecatchers but something really awful for him and the people around him.

(While Bioware only really used the Fade as source of magic so far, Avernus, a mage in the “Wardens Keep” DLC, speaks of another kind of magic connected to the Blight. He hints that even Demons (and therefore Spirits) do not understand it, fear it even. Since we were introduced to Titan’s as another source of power and their possible connection to the Blight, I’d actually hoped Bioware would lean more your way in the future in that they’d revoke the Fade as the only true source of magic. But since the Solas & Elven Pantheon conflict needs to be resolved somehow, I highly doubt they can just introduce new rules. I fear Avernus’ hints and implications are already forgotten.)

Magic and the mundane/ The Gentleman / Theon & Senros friendship  

I love the comparison between mundane medicine and magic based healing practices! There was this one healer in Skyhold who actually brought this up when speaking to her. But of course you could not argue that while mundane medicine techniques can never adapt magical healing ones, both would still benefit from each other. She just scoffs and continues doing her thing. Solas gets a lot of opposition for being arrogant and dismissing - rightfully so, of course - but most non mages in Thedas are just the same. Only the other way around.

Denon and his homunculi (no, homunculi, tumblr-autocorrect. not munchkin). remind me of golems. Tevinter traditionally had a very close relationship to the old dwarven kingdoms. Was his research connected to those dwarven constructs somehow? A Tal Vashoth merchant sounds intriguing as well.

Theon, Senros & their relationship is super interesting to me because it seems the variant that induces more conflict - Senros as Inquisitor, Theon as Warden - seems to be much more healthy for Senros. He is more confident but also gets more spotlight so people can call him out when necessary. Usually only healthy relationships are seen as the “good” choice. Yet I am not so sure if coddling Senros and letting him do his thing would be a good idea. Theon however always seems to get the short end of the stick. Is there anything in his life that makes him happy still?

She's not as much of a sex crazed, party girl like she use to be. But the quality is still there. Why You Love Them: Because she's the first OC that doesn't fall in the 'good person' category. While she has morals, they don't show too often because she doesn't see them working in the world where people will eventually back stab you for what they want.
