Orphic - Backstory
[Character rights belong to me. Any similarities to others is purely coincidental.]
As a young boy, Orphic loved the idea of adventure. His mother was what was referred to as a “Lady of the Night” and his father was a pirate. His father still took time to come back from his ventures on the sea to visit his family. However, one night, he came back with the news that he will no longer be able to continue seeing them. His mother gave his father one request: take Orphic with him. The boy’s mother knew Orphic wanted to experience the world and have some adventure. What better way then taking up the role as a pirate’s son?
Life on the ocean has its ups and downs, but there is no worse down than being framed for something you didn’t do and being forced off the ship by your own father. Orphic’s father and many crew mates began to notice an increase of enemy ships coming up and attempting to attack them. They were very good at keeping themselves hidden, but something had to be drawing these ships in. The traitor on the ship, who had been luring the others, decided to push the blame onto Orphic. The boy, now a teen, was blamed for everything as the real traitor placed incriminating evidence inside the boy’s small room.
Orphic was always a kid of few words. He never spoke unless he needed to or if it was with someone he truly trusted, like his father. He tried to reason with his father and tell him everything, but his father couldn’t overlook how obvious it seemed that the boy was at fault. Orphic’s father brought the boy before the entire crew and let them all say their own goodbye’s which usually involved punching or kicking the teen. The real traitor had a special treat for young Orphic.
“If the boy wants to keep his silence, let’s give him a reason to.”
The traitor grabbed the boy’s mouth, forced it open, and went to cut his tongue off. With Orphic struggling, only a small bit managed to be cut off, but this little bit would leave the boy with a permanent lisp. It was a few minutes later that Orphic’s father would throw his own son overboard to drown. His father soon learned the truth when the true traitor drew in a final ship that managed to successfully board and capture the crew. Orphic’s father died that same day.
The teen, thought to have been dead already, had washed up onto a small island where he used the survival skills he had to keep himself alive. On this island, he gained his loving pet snake who he named Imp. The teen grew to an adult by age when he was rescued by a soldier named Hena. At first, Hena didn’t even know he was there. Orphic never knew that he possessed a magic ability until he met Hena. Something inside him clicked and he soon found himself evaporating into a thin black mist, making himself invisible to the naked eye. Since he didn’t know how to use it, it eventually wore off, letting Hena meet the young adult face to face.
Hena was caring to him and wanting him to know she was not an enemy unless he wanted to make her one. Orphic was afraid to let Hena in, but soon enough, Orphic was boarding a small ship with Hena and a few members of her camp to go back to Ambergate. Hena helped Orphic learn to use his power which was titled Phantom. Phantom is a combination of Shadow and Death magic. How Orphic got this power, he couldn’t answer. Neither of his parents, nor either of his siblings had magic in their blood. Regardless, Orphic took pride in training to use Phantom properly and helping Hena on any mission she gave him. He gained the honor as Hena’s right-hand man years later for his determination and loyalty.
Currently, Orphic awaits Hena’s return with three young duel magic users she has saved from the clutches of the same family who stole her sister many years ago.
