“Oh, I remember,” Jade said. “It’s just that hearing you confirm it felt right.” There was a teasing air in his expression now. Whether Zane liked it or not, Jade very well could have and would have continued poking fun. He never really could say that he knew that sort of a struggle. There were times in battle when yes, he and his troops had suffered, but never quite to the degree of having to struggle to find food.

Now, Jade was not one to just dwell on the weather or how quaint Engeve was. He was more than aware of both fronts. The weather was fine, and Engeve was as peaceful as could be with there being no war and no threat of liger attacks any time soon. However, he also was not the most personable man. He kept his past and his mistakes close to his chest, only letting them come out to those he kept equally close. Zane was someone he had just met. If he expected the Colonel to suddenly reveal everything about his life, he would be sadly mistaken.

He wasn’t, however, about to just leave the conversation to dead air.

“You mentioned you were traveling before,” Jade said. “Where do you plan to go after this?” Malkuth was a pretty big place, after all. There were numerous towns and cities to explore. Not to mention the possibility of going to Kimlasca instead.

He laughed, taking the joking rather easily. “I um... well I’m not familiar with any of those places you’ve mentioned...” he looked a bit embarrassed having to admit it. He really was traveling blind. “I just come and go and don’t stick around long, you know how it is.”

Did he know how ‘it is?’ He wasn’t sure, but said it nevertheless. He didn’t expect everyone to get it especially not knowing or fully understanding why. 

The last place he'd been and had mentioned had elemental users of fire. He had run-ins with them, too. His home was far off, wherever his father was if it was still considered home anyway. Lately he couldn’t tell the difference. 

He wouldn’t want to explain why as it was. He was on the run from a number of soldiers who were adamant about arresting all who were associated with the ones who had also previously hired him. Some people liked him sure, but most towns in that area-- not so much. And the tattoo concealed on his arm he planned to get covered up with something else. Maybe something cool. An animal? Ooh... or a dragon... He tapped his chin with the fork as he thought on these things.
