#oc: baxter

Lemme tell you about a complete original story and characters I've got cooked up (or well, cooking) ((long post below the cut))

Anyways its a supernatural romance/drama/comedy (genre conventions are so stupid it can be three things damnit!) about a vampire lounge singer who got turned in the 1950's in Las Vegas and his human boyfriend who is an utter freak (and also magic but shhhhhhhhhh)

So Vampire Guy is named Johnny Sinclair (this name was a mistake but I got attached so I can't change it because he'll always be Johnny Sinclair in my head) he works at the Blood Ruby Lounge in the Brimstone Casino, which is entirely run by other vampires turned around the same time (like 1910's to 1960's era (the names of the casino and lounge was originally meant to be jokes but the names stuck and now the place as a mix of 1950's and satanic aesthetics (also Brimstone isn't an intentional reference to NV, I completely forgot Gomorrah existed lol) he sings he tells jokes typical entertainment fair

Unfortunately most of his material is from the 1950's (non offensive) and basically no one goes to the shows anymore unless they *really* fuck with the casino's aesthetic, and he may or may not be extremely bitter about that fact, and also extremely set in his ways, so he's angry and also refuses to do anything that'd help fix that anger. The man drinks and smokes and uses whatever he can get his hands in because he's immortal and figures that if he's gotta live he might as well feel good about it.

Anyways cue Baxter, local trans college student working on his engineering doctorate who's current vice is gambling, since it's the one thing he can engage with that doesn't risk his scholarship getting taken away if someone from his college sees him doing it. (This does not stop him from going out in increasingly ridiculous disguises and costumes) He also enjoys it from a mathematical aspect, he typically only plays the card based games because he's a bastard and likes to count cards (and also maybe cheat a little, because once again bastard). (Not to mention he has weirdly good luck I wonder why that is hmmmm)

Anyways the two of them meet because Baxter gets caught cheating and in the process of trying to escape before the cops show up they accidentally stumble upon Johnny draining a guy's blood after slipping into his dressing room to find a place to hide,

And of course Baxter freezes up because "what the actual fuck" before getting knocked out.

And well, the vampires have a fairly strict rule on not killing people who don't truly deserve it (most of the people they drain the blood from are bastards they see slipping stuff into people's drinks by the bar or being grade A creeps to people in general) and Sure Baxter broke the law technically, but since he saw Johnny drinking a guy's blood it might be best not to get the law involved at all.

So what are they gonna do? Why they're gonna have Baxter help modernize the Casino a bit and in return the cops and Baxter's college won't know anything about what he did. And as a bonus (since this is technically employment) he's getting paid a cool 20 dollars an hour (which is nice)

Johnny and Baxter fucking hate each other at first, Johnny hates him because Baxter keeps trying to change his set, and in Johnny's opinion if it ain't broke don't fix it.

And Baxter Hates the guy because while he's trying to help this jackass is being snotty and rude and an utter dick.

They eventually come around on each other because they get to know each other through having to spend time together, both have an extreme amount of existential dread but in different directions, Johnny doesn't know what to do with eternity, he's seen the world change so much and as much as he tries to dig his heels into the sand he's changed so much too. He can't remember his family's faces anymore and it scares him, he's afraid at some point none of who he was will remain, and that he'll end up as a parody of who he used to be.

Meanwhile, Baxter deals with the dread that nothing will change, that he'll be stuck in the same repition till the end of time, that the world will never accept him as he is as it feels like societal change is ever stagnant. He's afraid he'll die and the wrong name will be on his gravestone, not to mention his fear that even if he achieves his goals with his engineering degree, even if he gains notoriety in his field, that he'll never be recognized as who he is, he's afraid he'll always be seen as the same little girl who dreamed of great things with no way to achieve them.

They eventually become friends and then good friends, and then eventually Johnny kisses Baxter and worries that Baxter will hate him.

But as mentioned above, Baxter is a freak and immediately drags that vampire back to his dressing room.

At this point you may be asking, "Nara, wouldn't Johnny only be about 110? Thats pretty young for a vampire, at that point Baxter is just dating a very old man"

Yes. Baxter is aware of that, I'm aware of that,

Baxter wants to kiss that old man, sue him.

Oh also this world has a whole ass magic system which is also sort of like a religion based around abstract concepts.

(like luck for example)

They're kind of like gods, but they're also like ghosts, but they're also like spirits,

Also there's three different religious sects based around magic,

There's Warlocks, Witches, and Wizards, all gender neutral because yea

Basically there's this old ass book which is basically their religious texts that explain how to do magic and also how it came to be. But it has two different translations, one portraying magic as chill and vibes based the other is a lot more strict

Warlocks believe in vibes magic, Witches believe in Strict magic, Wizards subscribe to neither and are more like atheists

I'd like to state now none of this is meant as religious commentary, none of this is based on a real world religion aside from my experiences in the Christian church.

Most spells are cast through runes but each sect draws their runes differently, and each has their own effect (Warlocks are more powerful but less controlled, witches are less powerful but more controlled, Wizards are like... Base line)

Anyways guess what Baxter has been blessed by the concept of luck itself and it makes him a sort of big deal because he's the first person in like 100 years to be blessed by any of the "gods" and Baxter could honestly care less but he sort of becomes the centerpiece of the sort of political machinations of these three magic factions and who is actually correct.

Baxter would really just like to finish his degree and make out with his vampire boyfriend.

Sapient AI accidentally created by Tilly, who wanted to see what would happen if xe combined the biological computing processes xer species utilizes with the more advanced AI technology of the Greater Intergalactic Community. He’s a robot with organs and his organs are now in the walls of the Everseen, as he serves as the main computing system as well now. Pictured is his main drone body, which acts as a security guard, as well as a physical body to interact with the other crew members through.

He’s the closest with Chorn, respecting him as a captain and as a friend. He has an interesting relationship with Tilly, not holding xer in any high regard, but not hating xem for his existence. They have a mutual respect for each other, but see each other more as coworkers. He also, surprisingly, has a soft spot for the two younger crew members, Atala and Moi. He’s protective and loyal to the whole crew.

Being both machine and biological parts, he requires regular maintenance from Tilly. His more biological parts consist of computer processing microorganisms, specially grown organs and other fun bits! A lot of him is frankensteined together as nothing quite like him exists elsewhere.

I just think he’s neat :)
