The Second Guardian - The Builders
Those who build the Second Guardian ...
... had come from a pocket of Alteans and other races that had dissented with the idea that there was only ONE Voltron. They had viewed the idea that there needed to be more protectors, although the reasons varied from person to person. Some wanted an army, some wanted one per planet, or perhaps one per region. Others were concerned that if something happened to King Alfor, that the next person in charge of the team wouldn’t be so kind or trusting. A few distrusted the technology and thought that maybe a second Voltron or a third would create a system of counter-balances so that one Voltron could ‘control’ or destroy one that became uncontrollable.
However, it wasn’t until the Galra declared war and started to take over the galaxy, that these dissenters formed together to form a unified group. But, time was short. They scrambled to get together everything they needed to build a second Voltron so that there could be someone else to confront Zarkon. They fought amongst each other while the clock ticked down. There was information that they acquired of other potential rift sights or meteors. Yet, it wasn’t until King Alfor split the lions and hid them, that they left on a quest to find these other sources. The legend (for it’s been 10,000 years) is that the builders split into several groups to head into different regions of space away from the Empire and Altea. As far away as possible, for the surviving Alteans wanted to preserve the only remaining memory of their home they had, which was themselves. The group that build the Second Guardian, had several dozen Alteans, some of which had worked around or on the original lions. [note: I’m assuming there were technicians and engineers that put any plans or designs made by Honerva, Zarkon, and Alfor into action]. Within a year or two of the split of the lions, they arrived at their destination to discover their information was correct. Rather than a large meteor or a rift, they found a ring of numerous small to medium meteors that had congregated around a small Balmera. They formed the same kind of ring that you’d find around Saturn, along with traditional asteroids. As lucky as this seemed, the hard part was next.
