sometimes i look at the people who are all like 'ew no polyamory when it comes to my ~ships~' and i just sit
and look at the occulo trio
and laugh
b/c lets be real they're in a polyamorous queerplatonic relationship w/ each other
tbh i don't think they care about anyone else really outside their little cocoon (save for Nil and Vive and well probs Rosanna, and Sylvie and maybe Hyo if we're talkin treehouse crew 'verses)
but tyeah no .
why am i talking about ocs so much this morning what the fuck 2 of them aren't even mine :"D
i get so bad w/ wanting to just spew headcanons about the trio (aka ly and xan and ror) its ridic
like even more so then i get when i start to ramble about Nil and the wolf girls and esp Ly and Vive like I get all animated and shit it's ridiculous.
considering i'll eventually maybe idk when do a little comic maybe w/ the wolf trio after they leave occulo and shit and open up their shop and ly gets recruited by Kade to teach young little shit soldiers and half the time they're just placing bets as to how she got recruited considering she never had any actual training, she just makes it up as she goes and then like she's reallly informal w/ Kade and shit, and they're like
'what wait what the fuck he tried to toss a fireball at me for badmouthing him aND YOU 'RE LITERALLY TEASING HIM AND HE'S LAUGHING WITH YOU WHAT' and she just turns on them and glares on them and smiles, all pointy teeth and it's more wolfish then the young lady who's strict and calm and collected and they shut up and then she goes back to teasing Kade and stealing his gloves b/c she's an actual child, and then Nil and Vive send them baked goods and stuff idk
you know it's usually whenever i'm listening to some trashy kpop song that i'm like 'yes let's talk about ly and xan and ror b/c what else would i do tbh ' and idk why
Screech there's a dude on the train that actually looks like Ror wha t the heck Like I shit you not ahhggg what the fuck screeeeechibg now I want to draw Ror :IIII
Come Along If You Feel (Like a Room Without a Roof;; a occulo!verse drabble)
in which Kaden Piers is the Commander of the army and Lykai's one of his former students turned Lieutenant (or something like that) and there's a welcoming ball and dresses involved.
It's been approximately three weeks since the new recruits had arrived, had been drilled in commands and filed into order rank. Some of them talked about the odd grey haired girl who had wolf ears and a tail, who seemed to be closed off and covered in bandages more often than not. They talk about how sometimes she'd patrol around the hallways closer at night, the trail of cigarette smoke whirling around her, a light hum in her step as she made her way to the roof and sat there for hours on end, nothing but a bottle of whiskey or beer to keep her company.
They called her cold, even cruel.
(She was just tired, after all , early morning shifts and taking care of Vive and Nil while they were passed out from a mass rush of customers the night before took its toll on her. )
She would smile at odd times, when there was talk among the intel force about the fox boy who seemed to be a genius at what he did - infiltrate and cause up a ruckus and maybe not get his fur burnt.
(Again.)
They didn't really pay attention to it though, thinking that she knew him in passing, maybe.
Still, she had a bite, and wasn't afraid to snap at them when they toed out of line. She didn't tolerate any harrassment, didn't let the larger bigots pick on the weaker cadets.
She made them spar with her, one on one, two against one.
Sometimes if there was enough adrenaline and liquor in her system, she'd spar three on one, and somehow she usually beat them all.
Still, she held out her hand when they fell and tumbled, and sent them off into the infirmary ward where she knew that Xander would probably chew her out, something about sending too many cadets to his office when he had more important work to do, but she'd just brush him off and send him a nice bottle of wine that he could grumble about later but maybe take a sip of every now and then on the rare occassion that he felt like drinking.
Somehow they had survived the first weeks of training and lo and behold the date of the ball was approaching.
It was nothing too fancy, just a simple sort of welcoming ceremony for them not dropping out, at least not yet.
ii.
She got a knock on the door of their little training room while in the middle of making them run through the warm up drills - stretches , push ups, roll ups - the entire ordeal. Ears twitching she raised an eyebrow before turning around and seeing a familiar fox boy grin at her "Piers wants you in his office, Ly."
"What, you're his messenger boy now, Ror? "
"Nah, just figured I'd drop by. After all, I wanted to see who was taking up so much of your time."
Lykai could only chuckle before shrugging and rolling her eyes at him, turning back to the unfortunate cadets who were staring at the exchange with something like worry or curiosity.
They were about to slack off and relax but Lykai turned her gaze back at them and they were furiously scrambling to make it appear that no they weren't staring at the two of them talking,
Lykai didn't miss a beat , yelling back at them as she made her way to the door - "Drop and give me 50 push ups, curl ups, and 20 laps around the track, cadets! Else I'll make you slackers sit through more lectures on the history of Antheron and Belamin's ongoing war."
Letting out a collective groan they muttered something about her being ridiculous but didn't complain much. It's not like she doesn't care about them, not really. She gives them breaks, doesn't beat them or verbally abuse them like some of the other lieutenants.
Maybe she wasn't as cold as they initially thought.
iii.
It was easy to fall in step with each other - it's not like they've known each other forever. 10 years, perhaps.
Ror didn't miss a beat, bumping into her shoulder with a grin . "Seems like Piers wants to talk to you about the ball. Pretty sure he and Lisbeth had another fight and she went on some destressing vacation."
"What else is new? They're going to be bickering all the time anyway, with the rate that they're going I would have enough money to pay for all the medical bills that I keep on racking up."
"Ly, you don't have any medical bills because Xan patches you up with no antiseptic because you have some uncanny tolerance to pain and he likes to pretend that maybe this time around you won't go banging yourself around and getting hurt."
She could only smile before stepping closer and pressing a kiss to his lips .
"I know."
With that she had turned the corner and knocked on the door of Piers' office, before waiting for a split second and slipping in.
iii.
"You wanted to see me, Piers?" she muttered, leaning against the table that was near the door.
"Ah right ,Lykai. Just the person I was looking for." Kade muttered, a grin on his face. "I assume Ror filled you in on everything?"
"You mean about the ball and how Lisbeth seemed to hightail on out of here yet again? Yep. I'm surprised you haven't burnt the place down yet." She smiled, before crossing her legs and twitching her ears.
"Very funny Ly." he muttered before getting up from his desk and walking to the cabinet where he kept his liquor stored, taking out a bottle of whiskey and two glasses, offering her one which she took with a smile.
"So, I'm assuming you want me to help you with the ball because...?" Lykai said, curiousity in her voice as she nodded when Kade poured the drink in her cup.
"Simply put, I need an escourt."
"There are plenty of girls out on the street who need the cash, Piers."
"Not like that Ly, jeeze. I meant as a escort just for show."
"And you chose me because?"
"Well, I mean I've known you for how long now? Former student and all. You're not the type to yammer about any nonsense and you've got a sharp eye. It's not for the whole night, just partially."
Suddenly there was a childish glint in her eye as she clapped her hands together and downed the rest of her drink.
"Will there be a chandelier?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Will there be punch?"
"Amongst other drinks. Why do you ask?"
He got nothing in response but a grin and a tail swishing before she said
"Okay. Fine. I'll do it."
Simple as that.
"You sure?"
"Course. As long as there's liquor I'm good."
Kade smiles and mutters "Okay. Great. Thanks, Ly."
"Don't mention it, Piers. Now, if you excuse me I have a bunch of cadets to get back to before they think that you managed to kill me or something like that."
Kade only raised and eyebrow and shooed her off.
"Oh and Ly?"
"Yeah?"
"You're going to have to wear a dress."
He only got her laugh in response as she dragged off a sputtering fox boy who was certainly not eavesdropping.
iv.
She wasn't planning on telling Vive and Nil, but of course Ror made no claims of not telling them so of course when she gets back home to their little cafe she's met with a armful of color and bangles jingling as Vive launched herself at her and let out a shriek of joy and chatter, saying " Ly's gonna be in a dress , Ly's gonna be in a dress" before dancing out of Lykai's arms and dancing around with Nil around the bar, both of them chanting "Ly's gonna be in a dress!"
Lykai could only roll her eyes at them before smiling as she made her way upstairs to their loft above the cafe, their voices drifting up in a sort of wacky but warm melody as she stretched out on the couch and fell asleep the minute her head hit the cushions
v.
Slowly but surely the day of the ball had rolled around and Lykai somehow found herself at worry as to what dress to wear.
(Vive managed to convince her to wear a dress because she's been on a spy watching movie spree and Ly could have a gun strapped to her thigh in a holster and she could be cool and shoot some bad guys if anyone tried something shitty and yeah!!) and of course it was like Vive to stuff her in a dress.
She had the choices of a dark green dress and a dark purple dress, and while both of them were far too pretty for her liking, the dark purple one felt more snug than the green dress, which was a bit more risque and show-y. Something she wasn't too comfortable with.
Eventually she had gone with the dark purple dress, and Nil had done her make up - "Nothing serious Nil, just you know, enough to make it not too show-y" she had muttered as he hummed in agreement and sat her down, hair braided up in a new sort of haphazard style that he usually never wore, but there was a fondness in his eyes and she felt herself relax as he sat down in front of her and got to work.
Soon enough she was pushed out the door by Nil and Vive had looped her arm through hers, and they were off, shoes clicking and clacking against the pavement and sure, she got stared at but she didn't care, because her little sister was there with her and she let out a quiet growl in warning towards anyone who wasn't so discrete with their remarks.
They had arrived at the academy and Vive had given her a kiss on both cheeks before telling her to "Go get em Ly!" and had waved enthusiastically and was about to turn around and head back but Lykai shook her head before tugging her along with her.
"What are you --- ? "
"C'mon Vive, you're coming with me."
"But Nil-- "
"Will be fine. I think he wanted to experiment with some crafts or baking, last I heard. In any case we won't be there if he accidentally blows the place up."
Vive could only laugh at that, before nodding and tapping her feet in tune with the sounds of her sister's heels hitting the floor.
vi.
It wasn't too hard to spot them, the two wolf girls who seemed to be out of place yet all the more fitting in their little ball.
Kade had a pleasant smile on his face as he excused himself and made his way over to the wolf girls, and the pleasant smile that was awfully forced melted into an actual smile that he had - something fond and pleasant and it made his eyes light up ever so slightly.
"Vive! It's been ages since I last saw you. Doing better since Occulo I assume?" He grinned as she put her feet together and gave him a mock salute - "Sir yes sir!"
With a jingle she hummed before pecking Lykai on the cheek and saying "Better go get the punch, and you two have a show to put on. Also, don't trip, and don't step on his feet, Ly!"
Before either Kade or Lykai had a chance to respond, the auburn haired wolf girl had disappeared into the crowd and they were left on their own.
Kade had snatched two glasses of champagne from one of the passing waiters before handing one to Lykai.
Downing it in one go, they both muttered - "Well, shall we go?"
He offered her arm and she took it, and somehow they were all smiles and grace and managed to get through most of the night without any trouble.
vii.
The cadets were in a bit of a shock.
Sort of.
They were used to seeing her in baggy sweatpants and tank tops, but not in a dress and in heels.
And certainly not on the Commander's arm , all smiles and pleasant talk.
"Did someone spike the punch?"
"I think I'm hallucinating"
"That's not Lt. Lykai is it?"
They haven't noticed an auburn haired wolf girl who had siddled up to them before she spoke, a grin on her face - "That's my sister that you're eyeing. Make a move on her and I'll break your hands. Got it?" she flashed them a smile before humming along with the waltz that was playing.
viii.
"I hate waltzes. " Lykai muttered, stepping in front of Kade with a fake smile plastered onto her face.
"You're not the only one, kid."
Still, they had an act to perform and so they did, stepping a few times on each other's feet for good measure and it was all going smoothly until the chandelier came crashing down and they burst into laughter, loud and echoing and someone had spiked the punch but luckily there were no fire alarms going off.
At least not this time.
ix.
He wasn't going to spike the punch, but it honestly was too good of a chance to pass up, after all it brought him back memories of that summer ball years ago.
And the laughter that echoed from the wolf girl and their former headmaster was worth it, and hey, maybe it was time he stepped in and had one selfish dance, for himself with the wolf girl.
Which is why he tapped Kade on the shoulder, winked, and asked - 'May I?'
and he simply side stepped before the orchestra playing switched songs and they were dancing the foxtrot again, music humming through their veins as the broken crystals glimmered in the pale light on the floor.
"You did spike the punch, didn't you Ror?"
"What, me? Hell no course not Ly" He chuckled, a grin on his face.
"Well, at least i can take these heels off soon , because let me tell you Kade better have gotten me the good stuff if he expects me to keep this charade up."
Except it really wasn't a charade when she leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his neck and he thinks that yeah, it's okay.
She thinks that the headache that rages through her head tomorrow morning is okay, because it was worth the little dance and the glimmering chandelier shards on the floor.
Besides, she had the good stuff to drink down the morning with and that was perfectly okay.
Even if her cadets were still making bets as to who she was actually with.
Not that they'd actually know.
Nor would she tell them.
She could only laugh and take a swing from the bottle and it would be okay
