my main takeaway from spiders-man nwh is that there is now a canon sm2 au where otto gets a bit of peace of mind and a second chance, and now peter has a weird mad scientist uncle to keep an eye on and possibly do science together with, and that thought is all i need to be happy

after that too-long nonsense i’m gonna rewatch the raimi spidey flicks with friends sometime, i still love raimi’s sm2 with all my heart

phase four this, multiverse this, i don’t care, i want to watch a well-dressed mad scientist fight spider-man in a bank and then the mad scientist throws a car, this is all i require out of my superhero movie

i give zero shits about the mcu these days and would actually like it to please go away for a while but dammit i’m still going to watch sm: no way home at some point because i still love seeing those old pre-mcu spidey villains, alfred molina’s doc ock in particular, gimme weird old middle-aged character actor dudes having a blast any day of the week

i wonder a lot about whether the villains get sent back to their own respective time periods at the end of s:nwh or if they all just get dumped at once into the present day

mainly because i like to entertain myself with the mental image of the raimiverse crew popping up in 2021 and then spending like two hours trying to find a damn payphone

my biggest disappointment with the spider-verse movies is that references to the live action movies remained live action and were pretty limited, because i would give anything to see raimiverse doc ock and norman osborn and so on in the spider-verse animation style

found myself thinking about raimiverse doc ock again out of nowhere because that is a fandom that will always exist tucked away in some hidden corner of my brain for the rest of my life i guess

even putting aside how very fond of alfred molina i am that is just such an interesting version of the character, and one of my favorite character designs for him

like that man is a brick house next to dinky little peter, that is an octavius who looks like he paid his way through college on a wrestling scholarship and like he could actually carry the weight of such heavy mechanical equipment

i didn't really like sm: no way home overall but it had it moments, it was nice to have that bit of closure between him and peter, and the idea of him getting a second chance to keep living while also picking away at new advanced technology was definitely intriguing, even if i have zero confidence in how the mcu would handle that if they ever decided to follow that particular thread

oh it finally hit me why doc ock’s dialogue occasionally felt weirdly off to me in s:nwh

it was because most of the time he was decently accurate to the raimiverse interpretation, but every now and then he would suddenly get super grandiose and loud and overly-wordy, and it’s because they were writing him in the style of old school marvel comics supervillain doc ock

which, is a valid interpretation of course, buuuut trying to mesh that with the raimiverse interpretation at the same time doesn’t quite work like they thought it would
