° Sayomi came from a wealthy family and was sickly prior to her demon slaying days. Her parents died when she was only 13 and her older brother, Akatsuki, was 14. To support himself and his sister, Akatsuki oversaw a bit of his father's business during the day and after hearing of the presence of demons in their general area, took up demon hunting at night to protect Sayomi. He met Kyojuro, who was a year younger than him, a year into demon hunting and they became best friends. When Akatsuki was killed by a demon moon at 17, Sayomi took over with the mentorship of Kyojuro. She became his tsuguko at 18 a month after his inauguration as a Hashira. She was turned into a demon by Akaza, on the same dawn, right after he killed Kyojuro. With the man she loved gone, Sayomi bore the hardship of filling Kyojuro’s place and hiding her new identity all at once.
