sorry if this is really all over the place im oversimplifying a lot of things for brevity WHO IS BENNI - she is a pen object in my OOS story. also cishet She's from Brooklyn and has a humanities masters degree as well as a ton of student loan debt. She's Polish and Jewish on her moms side but rarely practices because she prioritizes work over everything else, much to her own detriment. -she is Not so stressed all the time and she will Not drop dead by the age of 40 #affirm She works at Consta Lume (a facility where mimics take care of and research humans) to pay off her debt. Alongside her coworker Noor (character who shows up in the present). Dale convinces her to quit her current job and help him kidnap relocate two humans for experimentation further research with the promise of better pay. Those two humans being Danny and Forrest. (Dale himself is a shitty dad and washed up war-profiteer who claims to have invented the next best military invention. That being a tiny blob of rotting meat and mismatched tech parts that he made on accident by throwing all of his past projects together in a drunk rage. He believes that once combined with the right human host, his creation will be revolutionary. or something.) Once everyone boards his "research vessel" (a yacht) he and Benni operate on Forrest to put the meat chunk in him. After the procedure is completed he turns into a zombie-esque thing up until his flesh fuses to and spreads throughout the hull of the vessel. Danny escapes on a life boat and later so does Dale, but not before he purposefully leaves Benni for dead. Except she doesn't die, she gets absorbed by the flesh. (Danny makes it back to shore, Dale goes missing at sea for good) Later the flesh yacht merges with the sunken remains of the Cortège (giant old train thing) and Epsilon (supercomputer made to protect humans and manage said train thing). And this is where levi (the cruise ship) comes from btw. this gives epsilon self awareness and they remake Benni and Forrest's original bodies so that they're no longer stuck to the floor of a boat. <- this is why they both have the plugs on their backs, they're like iterator puppets. But Epsilon also gets super upset over the fact that war and conflict exist, and devises a plan to get rid of people's free will so that people will never fight each other again. <- via conquering a nearby city (called Zhirt) that has a lot of humans in it. and so that they can play god. Forrest is easily manipulated into going along with it but Benni is like Hey that's fucked up don't do that. So Epsilon sometimes threatens to manipulate Benni's memories if she's too rebellious. Epsilon is politely annoyed at Benni and Benni fears and resents Epsilon. But the two of them make a deal that once Benni gets her revenge on Dale (by killing his son, Andrew) only then will Epsilon put her plan into action. so she spends her time savior complexing about saving Zhirt and panicking about Epsilon tampering with her brain. she 100% blames herself for what happened to Forrest and is prone to lashing out in frustration. She spends a lot of time alone.
