What ship do you like that you feel is hard to make work in (Fates) canon and why?
At first I misread this question as “Which ship is hard to make work in Fates canon in general,” and I was going to answer that no ship is really impossible to make work because of the way Fates and Awakening have the Support system. Even ships that don’t have a canon support could arguably happen because of the established way Supports happen and how everyone is in the same army together at some point or another. So everything is possible, really. Then I reread the question.
Now, that said, which ship do I like that is hard to justify in canon anyway? Xander/Odin.
Anon, I read the Gay Fates Hack for them one (1) time and fell head over heels for a hot minute. I even wrote a fic about them. And then I wrote a XanLowOdin fic because I couldn’t stop and was trying really hard to find ways to make it happen. Both fics are Modern AU because I literally couldn’t figure out a way for them to romance in canon, even though I just said anything is possible. I ended up really disappointed when writing that second fic because I ran out of steam with how to make it work, but in hindsight I feel just fine about it. I don’t think about them a ton anymore, but I’d still bow at the feet of anyone who can figure out a way to make it work and write Xander/Odin convincingly. A good fic or piece of art could probably reignite the flames in my heart in a literal heartbeat.
And that’s my secret Fates ship that I don’t know how to do, lol
