So lore wise, braiding her hair is very important to Raya since it’s the only form of affection she remember from her mother [her relationship with her parents was complicated]. ODST!John tries but it always send her into a fit of giggles after he’s done

But in the actual storyline, it takes the Chief three tries and he gets it down, but that’s a story for another time and a drawing for a different day.

Lowkey, I want Raya to be ODST! John "high-school bully" at the very beginning, yeah, they don't get along, but Raya comes for his throat.

"Wow, from an outer colony? You look like it, too. I'm surprised they let you enlist." With that sickly sweet voice of hers but is obviously mocking him.

Back on my ODST!John/Raya train of thought before I forget this,

After Raya gets hospitalized for a hot minute, John visits her every day much to her amusement and they still constantly tease each other but without the venom between words. Raya makes a mental note that between everyone on the team, John stops by more often than anyone else and it kinda makes her go, "he's actually sweet and not a dickhead."

[I should preference that John and Raya are on different ODST teams and they were brought together for the same mission, so they had no choice but to work together.]

On the day of her release, everyone stopped by and surprised her with a bouquet of roses, which later she found out was John's idea.

Anyway to celebrate they end up going to a bar to drink and it kinda clicks in John's brain as he's watching her shoot whisky with her teammate that he thinks she's pretty and ends up saying it out loud. And his teammate looks at him weirdly, "Don't you two hate each other?"

and absentmindedly John responds, "Yeah....I think so?" but with a kinda wistful tone and ends up watching her for the rest of the night until she bounces over to make him do some shots with her-
