something humorous and tragic in the Rhea!Penelope, Odysseus!Percy AU is that the Kronides dote on Telemachus, they love their little mortal-born brother, they’d do anything for him. Except—despite Telemachus’s pleas, tears and attempts to bargain—Hades has refused to give him the soul of Odysseus, every time he asks.
No matter what Telemachus claims, the Kronides know what kind of monster the Trojan war and Poseidon’s pursuit of the man turned him into, and believe it is kinder to not inflict that on their sweet baby brother. They don’t want him to suffer at Odysseus’s hands the way they all (including Chiron) suffered at Kronos’s.
Then Odysseus gets reincarnated as Poseidon’s son as a punishment for him breaking the oath to not sire any more demigods…
the only ones happy about this (though they’d rather he hadn’t been reincarnated as Poseidon’s son), are Rhea, Telemachus, Athena and Hermes.
The Kronides are bracing themselves for Odysseus to turn on Telemachus and their brother realizing the truth: that his father is just like theirs.
Telemachus wants to wrap Percy up in bubble wrap and hide him somewhere because he keeps getting into danger.
12-year-old Odysseus!Percy is trying not to mother-hen Telemachus because he’s a grown man but it’s hard when he sees how Telemachus’s eyes light up at seeing him, and regardless of everything that is Odysseus’s baby.
