Well, that was handy. I finally got a grocery order in, and there were still a few delivery slots open this evening! (ETA: Actually went with Tesco over Sainsbury's this time because of that.)
I was expecting to have to wait for tomorrow, at the very least. It cost like £2 more than some of the slots then, but more than worth it if I can avoid going out after a couple of things today. Plus get more GF bread, which I ran out of again. Needed to stock up on some staples anyway, so may as well get more good out of that higher delivery charge 🙄
But yeah, probably ought to remember to place orders more often. Definitely worth the extra £5-8 not to have to lug it home on the bus myself, anyway, even if that were less of a problem these days.
This is actually nuts.
I'm growing my own crops, and buying meat from local farmers. I think the slopification of food is also partially to blame for our health crisis. Produce grown too fast doesn't give it time to pack itself with necessary nutrients. Livestock grown too sanitized has the exact same effect.
We're conveniencing ourselves out of existence.
Dumbledore’s death is still one of the hardest decisions I had to make. I just came across my notes for that decision and it’s so hard to realize how inevitable it really had to be. Here are my notes, detailing my thought process I try to break down the key components of the HBP finale to understand a) what to do without the locket being stuck in a cave and b) figure out how to save Dumbledore
--Harry and Dumbledore leave to hunt a Horcrux --Dumbledore is severly weakened/injured --Draco kills Dumbledore? but he doesn’t mean it so Dumbledore lives? --Snape kills Dumbledore? but this was their plan all along so D. lives?
If Reg. goes w/Dumbledore and prevents him from trying on the ring, Dumbledore has no inevitable death sentence, so he may make other arrangements to fake his death for Draco’s/Snape’s sake?
If Snape fake-kills Dumbledore, that’s in violation of his Unbreakable Vow and he would die. If Snape makes the Unbreakable vow, either he or D. have to die.
Does Dumbledore/The Order benefit from Dumbledore faking his death? --draw Voldemort out? --Dumbledore’s death allows Voldemort to take over the Ministry -- d. would never allow that if he had a choice --if Dumbledore is made weak, unable to fight, forced into Snape’s and Aberforth’s care that could work? --additional fear of horcrux hunting -----Reg was weak for 2 full yearas -----Dumbledore weakened as well -----what would happen to Harry & co
If Dumbledore did not know he was going to die, he would never teach Harry about Horcruxes.
It ultimately came down to Snape or Dumbledore had to die (because Dumbledore would not save Snape from the Vow unless his death was inevitable; he would expect Snape to die from his mission as double agent), and that Harry needed to learn about Horcruxes before he came of age, before Deathly Hallows began. So... that was that.
I have 121 followers, and only 3 give a shit about what I say, to those three, I salute you Oh, and the people who come out of the woodwork to attack me when I post a historically correct post, I guess you guys can have a salute too
tinehaura replied to your post “Wow, fanfiction.net’s guidelines are terrifying. No wonder I’ve...”
I've been with FF.Net for years and the only thing I've seen them ever use the banhammer on non-stories and smut. So long as you don't put cuss words in an otherwise G-rated story, I think you should be fine.
I find rating (and warning) really, really hard to do. How much violence puts something out of teen? What exactly does graphic violence mean? What if the actual violence is off screen, but I somewhat mention the damage afterwards? Why are there no clear guidelines for ratings anywhere? I want a formula, damn it. If A, B, or C then [rating]. If X, Y, or Z then [different rating].
Watching me try to put warnings on something could probably be a comedy routine. (Or is just really sad.)
*puts all the warnings I think should go on a fic*
*reads what I put*
Dear god, that makes it sound like it makes A Song of Ice and Fire look like a relaxation tape.
*deletes the warnings*
But, but then people might read it and get upset.
*puts the warnings back*
How do I make the warnings sound not like Horror Chainsaw Massacre 5000????
*condenses the warnings down to “violence”*
*cries*
Whoever it was I stole the warning “canon-typical violence” from has saved me premature gray hair, I swear. (And I’ve still been known to warn for things that happen off-camera. Just in case.)
I think my fics are probably Teen. But I will never be sure. And I really don’t know how other people can be so confident. :\
