I'm not much of a shipper, but I have collected a few OTPs over the years… have a choice of five that are the most important or current:
The Lord of the Rings – Faramir/Eowyn
Ever since my first reading, ever since I was little and knew nothing about shipping, I loved the House of Healing scenes between them. It probably helps that I have always adored Faramir himself, but in any case, the help and love they found in one another speaks to me more than any other romance in the series (canon or not).
The Silmarillion + Unfinished Tales (okay, cheating here a little, but they weren't exactly both in TlotR!) – Elrond/Celebrían
I just love them. And their tragedies are heart-breaking.
This one was completely unexpected – I didn't even plan on seeing the film, and at that point I wasn't one for light/dark or hero/villain ships (it's changed somewhat over the last months). But what I saw on screen left me intrigued, and fandom filled in the holes ;)
And while strictly speaking they weren't the first controversial couple I shipped, it was the first time I'd seen rampant ship hate for my ship.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn! – Colonello/Lal Mirch
This is a bit of an old story, but I'm having a return of feels. And I did have plenty of feels for them in my time. It's the magic of this series that it leaves great characters and dramatic love stories with drama, denial, tragedy, sacrifice, death and tsundere behaviour on the margins of the main plot (such as it is), but hey, at least I watched them become canon!
Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea – Samekichi/Wadanohara
Most recent and completely unoriginal, because it's canon between two main characters and it's unbelievably sweet… while also being deeply tragic, of course. Cuteness, death threats, misunderstanding, saving one another, sacrifice, trust, waiting for a thousand years, final reunion, all the classic stuff that alays gets to me.
