liz held her legs tight between her arms. back leaned against the couch as her eyes moved back and forth between the images on the screen and the door of room. her heart racing slightly at the sound from the tv. “why are we watching a horror movie again?” she hadn’t realized until that moment just how dark the room really was. eyes running through the furniture over and over again, as if any of them could come to life at that very moment and threaten her. every movement, every shadow was a warning, a death sentence disguised as ordinary life. it’s just a movie, it’s just a movie. “and why don’t these people just, just move out of their houses?” she pointed to the characters, exasperated. “because honestly? the first time i said demon, do something, and a door opened, i would pack up everything i owe and move to south america.”
