no matter how bright the flashes of light were, the cameras would never be able to capture the FULL picture. it wasn’t like the two were being bombarded every second of the day, but there was never a private moment to be held outside closed doors. slowly but surely, devin was getting used to the odd relationship him and cara shared. was it built entirely on lies? were all their warm gestures to one another, the hand holding, the chaste public kisses emotionless? no. with every motion he made, devin had a rational for why he had done it – he refused to act robotically around cara; he cared for her too much. as they stepped out the backdoor of the restaurant, he gently pressed a hand against the small of her back, securing his presence next to her as both of them were momentarily blinded by the bright flashes. it felt NATURAL to do so, to reassure her that he was stood beside her. a small break in the photographers created a path for them to get the parked car. though, they were not able to go through without questions being peppered their way. “having a nice night, you two?” “can we get a picture with you?” “where are you heading next?” they were trained to not answer questions all the time, to make their responses rare and special. tonight, devin was only feeling comfortable giving small smiles to the various men around him.
they broke through the small crowd, and finally reached devin’s car. he made a point to open the door for cara before getting in the driver’s seat himself. as soon as the doors were closed, he let out a heavy breath. “you still want to head back to my place?” his voice was high and happy, looking across to cara. a couple pictures were still being taken of them sitting, but dev couldn’t hear the camera clicks or useless questions aimed towards them, and so, he was almost entirely relaxed again. cara and him had plans for dinner ( a small suggestion made by one of their producers ) and to then wind down at his apartment for the evening. ever since they started “dating”, devin felt as if he had to plan more alone time with the girl, to make up for the inauthentic public appearances with her.
