she plays the few notes she knows slowly over and over, no longer thinking about what she’s planning to say to eva because she’s written speech after speech in her head and none of them are very good, or say what she means, or make very much sense at all. even with the scattered piano music, tilly hears eva immediately when she enters, because the room is so big and so empty that everything seems to be echoing, especially her footfalls. she hesitates for a moment before sliding over on the piano bench, figuring that’s what she would normally do. “hi,” she greets, trying to smile but it feels pained and probably looks wrong. the one thing she’s settled on it not belaboring the point, though it’s tempting to put it off for the sake of normalcy. “i’m still not very good.” eva had probably heard enough to know that much. / @ofeva​

steve waits until allister has left eva’s room, gives himself a few seconds to ensure he’s in the clear before knocking on eva’s door. he imagines she’s going to be surprised to see him, except this time there’s not a single nerve that’s unsteady, palms as dry as his throat. for now, anyway. as long as he can focus on the wood grains of the door rather than eva’s face. he’s just a little fed up of wishing things weren’t true. “ hi. can i come in? ” he asks calmly after she opens the door.

Faith hadn't been in the mood to get drunk .. or really do anything. The party had seemed kind of sad so far and while it was tempting to just drink the drowsy atmosphere away, she'd probably have an even worse night so she hoped that she could at least end the night by making fun of the drunk crowd. tilly couldn’t help but notice that eva wasn’t in the burn book, couldn’t help but grow suspicious about why this might be, considering even her mother is included, but she’s choosing to ignore that for now. because gallagher has been threatening to make things not nice lately and she won’t let it take eva, too, arguably the nicest aspect of her life. “i know it’s kind of early, so don’t judge me...but this is my first mother’s day with two moms, properly, and i don’t want to get them the same thing, but i also can’t think of two good ideas. do you have any suggestions?” / @ofeva​

“happy new year’s eve,” she says brightly, as if it’s an actual holiday of any significance. if tilly had gone how to switzerland, she wouldn’t be here right now, but it’s worth it to see eva a few days earlier. “do you want to dance?” she asks, already slinging her arms around eva’s neck before waiting for an answer. tilly doesn’t even want to dance, she just wants an excuse to hold eva closer. “also you look really pretty,” she attempts to lower her voice when she says it, leaning in closer, but she still has to be heard over the music so it’s not very subtle. / @ofeva​

for the most part, tilly is just waiting for eva to kick her out for overstaying her welcome. she hasn’t explicitly said anything yet, but she likes to think eva knows her well enough to guess why tilly is hesitant to return to her own dorm. in some ways, eva is the only person she trusts entirely. it feels like everyone else she knows has been hiding something from her for almost a year, possibly including her own mother. her mind is jumping to all kinds of conclusions she’s not yet ready to face by talking to those involved, and while being with eva isn’t a complete distraction, it does make her feel better. “sorry for being a nuisance,” she says, likely not for the first time. “you’re...honestly the one person i want to see right now. but i can probably go to my mom’s office to be alone, if you get sick of me.” / @ofeva​
