I’m so normal about how at the end of the Titan Ninth Doctor comic Official Secrets, the Brigadier immediately picks up on how the Time War changed the Doctor. About him noticing that something happened, something that gave the Doctor the instincts of a commanding officer, instincts the Brigadier recognizes in himself, and knows exactly what you have to sacrifice to get.
And I’m definitely so normal about the way Nine smiles when Rose offers a convenient distraction from that conversation, because he knows the Brigadier would understand, and that’s exactly the problem. He doesn’t want to be understood. He doesn’t want to be that person anymore. He wants to pretend he’s still the version the Brigadier knew, before the war, before everything.
Pretend he’s the person in Rose’s eyes, and not the person he no longer is in the Brigadier’s.
I’m fine. I’m so fine about this scene. Totally, completely, absolutely fine.
Just watched Official Secrets and not only was it a great film (starring Kiera Knightley, Matt Smith, and Ralph Fiennes), but the actual story which is based on a real case in the UK, highlights a woman I now have mad respect for.
Katharine Gun who decided to leak a secret memo showing the UK was implicated by the US to blackmail members of the UN Security Council to star the war in Iraq in 2003, while knowing she was violating the Official Secrets Act, putting her husbands legal immigration at stake, and prison/a criminal record to carry for the rest of her life, deciding to confess to it and then fight the charges which were ultimately dropped because it exposed the illegality of the war is so fucking badass!!!!
I need to learn more about women like this. Also, fuck politicians and especially mine in US. Because truly watching this, with the shitshow that is happening in Iran... Yeah fuck all of it!
