“You were never worth anything to me.” The words slipped from her lips before she could stop them. Regina hated herself for this, but she had no choice. She had seen what her mother was capable of. Just the day before, she had been eavesdropping on her mother who was having a heated conversation with someone. The encounter ended with Cora ripping the woman’s heart out and crushing it to ash. A horrified Regina had seen with her own eyes what her mother could do. She knew that crossing Cora was not an option. And she would rather let Daniel go and know he was alive and safe than watch him die. So, hear she was forcing herself to break his heart, to pretend she never cared, that she’d only been using him. And in return she was breaking her own heart.

Daniel tilted his head to the side and tried to wrap his mind around her words. “Regina, that’s... No. What are you saying?” He couldn’t believe her. Not after all the sweet words they whispered into each others’ ears in the stillness of the night. Not after all that they’ve done just to spend more time alone. Oh, the lengths they went to... No this couldn’t be happening. Something else was behind this and he was determined to find out. 

“Whatever it is we can beat it together, Regina. I am not giving up on you.” He took her hands in his and kissed her fingers. “I love you and I won’t stay here and watch you go.”

“No, no tell me again about the whole ‘evil queen’ thing. Makes me think of my second ex-wife. She was a crazy bitch. I loved her though. Til she took a golf club to the Ferrari. Then she was dead to me. I mean, no one beats on my Georgia with a golf club, and gets alimony.”

“Regina.” Snow smiled, relieved that she opened the door. “Are you alright? I thought that you might be lonely tonight…” She looked at the woman, trying to keep the sympathy out of her expression and voice.  “I thought that we could watch some sappy movies and eat chocolate. I’m staying home tonight with Neal, so I thought that you might want to join us.”

Some Concerns

“You’re a bit late to jump on the bandwagon. Of course it’s a bad idea!” Regina said, exasperatedly. “Your daughter’s complete lack of good judgment is clearly hereditary.” She punctuated her words with a roll of her eyes. “However, now that we’re here, we might as well figure out a way to bring the pirate back. Unfortunately, the list of people to bring back is only growing. My concern is what it’s going to cost us.”

"Well, I'm glad you're making your feelings known, Regina. I trust my daughter's judgment. She believes that Hook died in vain, and that he was her true love. I would never ask anyone to give that up." Snow knew what true love could cost, but it was worth it. "We will cross that bridge when we come to it Regina, it's no use to worry about the cost before we've even found the people who need to come back."
