A seagull. He is someone who values freedom and the idea of flying to any place he wants pleases him. Besides that, he loves beaches, loves being close to the sea. So, a bird who can also swim is a good choice for him.

Seagulls may not be the most good looking animals but are undoubtedly strong and they are animals who likes to be in a group - and as much as Rio likes his freedom, he loves being around many people. 

Seagulls are also not uncommon in the state.

You can also think that both the bird and Rio are annoyingly loud sometimes. But he won’t exactly like if you mention that.
