This is a collision of bull-headed ideas. Florence believes in taking the ( metaphorical ) left path, and Mariloria believes in the right. Neither will budge, and the argument is chipping away at the healer’s patience. She sits with crossed arms, slumped in the chair and watching Mariloria with hard eyes.

( They’re alike, aren’t they? A disaster waiting to happen, she thinks. )

“ Consider it a suggestion, then. I think it would be wise to wait and watch, to learn more about this vampire’s lair before charging in. Do what you wish, though. I’m a healer, and nothing more. ”

There’s something chaotic in the way memories come: unwanted, unannounced, and ripping the earth from beneath the feet. In Florence’s case, they leave her stunned, open-mouthed, and wide-eyed while the battle comes to an end. She blinks, and the corpses of strangers become the corpses of her comrades. She sucks in the air, and the taste of smoke and ash fills her mouth.

And then the sight is blocked.

Avenion is a wall between her and the horror. Look at me. She does, and the action ( or shame of this moment of weakness ) breaks the trance. “ I – ” She swallows. “ I need to tend to the wounded. ”

“ I am careful. ” This was a small mistake. The wound will heal, and she’ll be fit to fight after a night’s rest. ( It’s vanishing even as they speak. The lines of red on her shoulder close, leaving behind thin and pale scars. She’ll forget they’re there. ) What she doesn’t need is a hovering caretaker or lecturer, and Florence levels Avenion with a go-away stare.

“ I know what’s out there. I’ve fought what’s out there, and I know the risks. This is nothing. It’ll heal, and I’ll be fine. ”

The pain is easing. “ In fact, ” she adds, “ I’m sure I could take watch in the morning if I wished. ”

🌑 . . . ╰──╮    SHADOWHEART WASN'T FOND OF needless acts of evil, but watching a follower of Stendarr torn apart by trolls?? That certainly didn't count. By Namira's covenant, it was his duty to end these hypocrites himself whenever possible.

But circumstance hadn't permitted it this time, or so he told himself when he'd stepped in to save the priest. Pragmatism demanded another set of eyes in these dangerous lands & he could only hope Namira would forgive him for bending the rules in order to see his mission through.

ㅤㅤㅤㅤThe raven-haired Altmer had been stoking the flames with his magic in the abandoned Forsworn camp they'd found when Kaaldra broke the silence   ( Shadowheart hadn't been particularly talkative thus far — he'd revealed only that he had urgent business in Winterhold  ) .

Brows arched.    ❝. . . I highly doubt it.❞     In truth, Shadowheart didn't REMEMBER. Most of his memories had been stripped away to protect his coven when he'd been sent to retrieve the artifact.

❝No offense, but you are not exactly the sort of company I would normally keep~❞  he added with a teasing lilt to his voice   &  a smile he knew they couldn't see. 

❝You should try and get some rest... we're leaving at first light. I will keep watch.❞

Despite his restrained position, he seemed entirely unbothered. If anything, the raven-haired mer looked entertained by the situation.

❝I'm hoping this is simply your rather aggressive attempt at seduction,❞ he purred, his breath ghosting across the pale elf's lips. ❝...Otherwise, this may end poorly for you~❞

the  feast  lasted  twenty  minutes.  mordred  was  a  growing  creature,  yet  to  develop  the  discerning,  mannered  palette  of  ladies.  testes,  thighs,  liver,  heart,  callous  rinds,  all  long  placed  upon  the  altar  of  her  stomach.  @ofnxghtshade  may  have  been  ignored  entirely  in  favour  of  gnawing  the  nord  man's  tongue,  but...

❝If you are half as capable with that bow as you imply, I would consider hiring you. I could use another pair of eyes crossing the Reach.❞ A carriage out there was practically a moving target, an open invitation to be ambushed by Forsworn or whatever else lurked in these lands.
