“Hey, uh... are you alright?” Peter asked, having been watching the woman for a few moments. “You look like you’re a little lost.” Most tourists didn’t really make it into his (and May’s) neighborhood- most preferring the flashy lights of Times Square (urgh) or the more museum-filled areas. If he was honest, there wasn’t much here for anyone that didn’t live in the area. And she seemed like she was looking for something.

“ C’mon, kinda question is that? “ the man replies jovially, grinning ear to ear in amusement at her question. The man wraps an arm around her, giving her a gentle squeeze as his eyes soften. He knows it’s been difficult for her to adjust, after everything that happened with the heart of the TARDIS—but he’s just the same. Same man, same memories, same ethics… well, mostly. A new coat of paint isn’t going to make him stop caring about her. A hand settled on her shoulder, the other reaching for hers, firmly, with conviction. The Doctor smiles, a sense of mournful reassurance in his eyes ( because goodness if the question didn’t break his hearts in two ).

Mortality. If there's one thing that the Doctor fears the most, it's the fragility of those around him. All these hundreds of years and he's seen deaths to span thousands, some even those he'd sworn to protect. Like Rose. It's a defense mechanism, when things go sour like this, a reaction to a tragedy befallen not once but many times. He doesn't want her to end up like the rest. Not her. And he’ll be damned if the universe thinks to take her from him. IT’LL BE OVER HIS DEAD BODY.
His grasp on her arm is firm, but not enough to hurt, just enough to demonstrate a degree of protectiveness from the timelord. Doesn’t she understand the danger she was just put in? He curses his own contagious hubris... Whilst they’d shared their fair moments of deadly scrapes, that was too close for comfort. He pauses for a moment, then lets it fall. Staring at nothing, he’s running variables, calculating risks. She’d been painted a target... but they couldn’t hit the target if they couldn’t SEE it. The Doctor takes a second to regain himself, before briskly turning back to the direction of the TARDIS. They’ve interfered too much, anyway.
❝ We're leaving, ❞ he decides sternly, fists clenched by his sides.

The Doctor's fists are tense by his sides, exuding an aura far from forgiving as he looks on. There's this dangerous look in eyes, that capable of levelling people and cities and with the right pressure, he could. Amidst this sea of red, her voice emerges from the depths, and he looks over to her.
❝ Because no one ever listens, Rose. No one ever. Listens. Curious life sets foot on this planet and their first instinct is to kill it. Capitalise on it. Breed an aura of ignorance no one would dare dissipate because the universe is a threat. ❞ A cold pause. ❝ Little do they know -- ❞

Brown eyes glance back the Doctor's companion as he contemplates her sudden remark, though the thoughtful stupor is temporary as it is almost fond.
❝ Oh, I'll always believe you, Rose Tyler. That is an infinite certainty. Infinite thing, ❞ the time lord responds with an affectionate smile across his lips, winking at her with an entertained expression. He looks back up at the night skies, ever vast from their view on board the TARDIS. All those stars burning so brightly -- and he'll never grow tired of them, especially so long as she's here. She's brightest of them all. He lets the silence sit, leaned slightly against her. ❝ I’ll happily say the same. ❞

❝ Am I? ❞ the Doctor replies with a raise of his eyebrow, looking over to his companion with a nonchalant expression. Playing coy, as always -- or is he genuinely surprised? He can't say he's certain. He's just happy. Happy that she's happy. Glad he's all she needed him to be. All that matters in the end. There's a click of his tongue, hands tucked into his pockets as he nudges her playfully with a cheeky grin. ❝ S'pose I am. Wouldn't be the best without you, though. ❞ Oh, truer statements have never been spoken.

For the last 5 years I’ve done nothing for my birthday, guess eventually I’ve stopped seeing it as special to avoid disappointment, psh. Get some good food and do something you like!
