torture. complete and utter torture was what it was. watching the only person she truly ever loved lay peacefully, drifting off to his death no doubt, made her want to scream and break something. the fact that there was also nothing she could do but hope they make it to iego on time was testing her mental stability and yet, orion sat there by his bedside, fingers calmly brushing through his matted brown hair. she wondered if he was suffering just as much as she. or perhaps the force had granted him good dreams before it did the deed and tore him away from the galaxy once more --and this time, on it’s own terms.
she watched gael with soft and tired eyes. his breathing and the ships mechanics were the only things she could hear. her shaking hands moved to stroke the side of his face as her thoughts continued to consume her. orion was so tired, she was sure he was too. but they were so close to the cure but they had held on to each other for this long, surely their efforts shouldn’t go to waste, right? but if it meant that he had to hurt, it wasn’t worth it.
“it’s okay...” orion quietly admitted, a small smile on her face. she hoped he could hear her or then again, maybe not. she wasn’t sure. “you don’t have to fight. not anymore,” she said with a shake of her head. “i’m sorry i wanted you too, even though you were already okay with going.” she let out a disheartened laugh, scooting herself closer to him. “but really, if you want to let go, who am i to prevent you from doing that? hell, i want you to let go. i want you to move on. i want you to finally have some peace. i.. i want the best for you, gael.”
“so please, i know it hurts. but it can stop right now if you want it to. just know that it’s okay. i’ll be okay. jyn and cassian are here and... the resistance got out of naboo. i can start piloting and doing missions again and even though you won’t be around, i’ll keep you around. we were made for each other, did you know that? but good things can never stay long, not in this galaxy anyway. but you’ll always be my best friend, gael. it’s just how it’s been since the beginning and just because you’re gonna be gone again isn’t gonna change a single damn thing.”
hot tears dripped from her eyes as her heart felt like it was going to be ripped out of her chest at any given moment. but she needed to say it and he needed to know. “we’re gonna be fine, i promise. now stop fighting, because you’ve been doing that for far too long. just let go. please... i love you.”
