Azula suddenly glad she didn't ask if she wanted to wait til after their wedding to have sex. Pfft.
(Well I don't have sob stories like all of you. I could sit here and complain about how our mom loved Zuko more than me, but I don't really care.)
Azula being told she should let go of Mai and Ty Lee because she's holding them back. And of course she initially scoffs but later on is just like. Am I holding them back? Do they need someone who isn't a monster and broken?

Azula can't make herself lie to Mai. Not when she knows it would hurt her. Letting out a sigh and finally gathering her courage so she can finally face her. The truth was she started to grow tired of being obedient and miserable. Still she feared not for herself but for Mai.
"He's starting to notice how much time I spend with you. You should leave before he hurts you. I can take whatever he sends my way. I don't want you hurt because of me. Because I'm foolish enough to think I could be happy."

Azula wasn't the best when it came to expression her feelings. For years she was taught it was a weakness after all. So of course it would be much easier to insult Mai then compliment her. There was also the fear of rejection that kept her from being completely honest as well.
"I wouldn't say you were ugly. Because you aren't."
it's you. it's only ever going to be you. (Mai to Azula)

The first thought that comes to her mind is why. Azula knows she's not the one most come to love. She's abrasive and has to always win one way or another. Mai has been the only person she could let her guard down with. Well her and Ty Lee anyway.
She doesn't want to disregard Mai's words even if she is having trouble with them. It's hard to accept that Mai wants and loves her when no one else has ever bothered to make the same effort for her.
"Why me? When you can have anyone."
