*[[ ✝ A wish]]
My muse has left their old, brown leather book somewhere by accident. Send me a “✝” to read a wish that never came true or sad memory (specify which.) from the book.
I would like to believe that Lady Emmeryn and I saw eye to eye on the matter of this so called militia that Prince Chrom was so adamant in establishing; that though his intentions in keeping the citizenry of our halidom safe from the recent influx of bandit attacks was and still is admirable, doing so made milord a high-profile and valuable target for any brigand hoping to pick up a handsome ransom from Ylisse’s Royal coffers. What’s more, Lady Lissa’s insistence upon joining meant that my duty as the royals’ guardian would become a round the clock mission. While I do not doubt Lord Chrom’s skill with a sword nor Lady Lissa’s talents with her staff, I must admit that I have been more on guard than I have been since taking up my position with them all those years ago.
Today, I was given a reminder of my Prince’s rashness… and a title that I shall have to become used to. En route to Southtown, my lieges found a strange vagabond lying unconscious in a nearby field. Against my counsel, my lord and lady greeted this stranger and we were forced to accompany this “Robin” towards town for questioning. Frankly, the amnesia garble that this character was going on about seemed a tad out of place, but my suspicions were promptly dismissed as paranoia. When the bandits we were tracking laid siege to the town itself, we left Robin behind to deal with the greater threat… though we would not be rid of this hooded stranger for long.
Though I will admit that Robin’s mind for tactics and hand for battle were an asset in the ensuing battle against Garrick and his ruffian brigade, the Plegian trappings we found our new tactician in left me with an uneasy feeling. My only hope regarding… all of this is that Lord Chrom does not go on to recruit other dubious characters in such a hasty manner and that this stranger does not go on to stab us in the back. I think it best to inform Her Grace about the full extent of my suspicions and remember not to let my guard down in the immediate future, lest my worst fears be realised.
