"Well look what the cat dragged in." Roy leaned petulantly against the sofa, his hair now cut shorter than Kori would ever have seen it. He had a flat top. During her absence he'd decided that keeping the long hair was too much work so he'd gotten serious, tried to behave himself for the sake of a daughter who looked to him once more to be both mother and father. "They didn't foreclose on the place. I kept up the payments while you were gone."
Her home was empty. Nobody was in it. The sound of the television was not to be heard. There was no laughter. Kori walked slowly through the house and sat on her couch. She had been away helping fight a war in another galaxy. She had been injured and unable to contact Roy or Jason. They probably thought she was dead. A voice pulled her from her thoughts, Kori stood slowly, holding her side. "Roy.." she breathed, her eyes going straight to his short hair. "Thank you."
