+ these boys listen to so many different kinds of music and they just sing together while they (richie) drive!! classic 80s, modern pop, rap, they listen to it all and eddie cracks up at richie trying to rap (richie loves chance the rapper and eminem and kendrick and logic okay it’s canon I’m convinced of this)
+ richie thought he was in love with eddie before but this road trip is just??? confirming it so much!! he looks over at one point and it’s 2am and they’re driving through Oklahoma and eddie is struggling to stay awake, his head leaned against the window and eyes half-closed but looking at the stars
+ richie loves the weird gift shops in tourist towns and whenever they stop anywhere he drags eddie through all the stores and has to buy one thing from every state they stop in. eddie’s protests of how half that stuff probably wasn’t even unique to the area die on his lips as he watches richie dart excitedly from shelf to shelf, showing him all the odd little knick knacks that catch his eye
+ eddie loves diners so every morning, no matter where they are, they find a cute diner to have breakfast (or lunch, if they sleep in) at. eddie always gets an omelet, and richie always gets some sort of pancakes or waffles with what eddie considers an ungodly amount of syrup
+ unless they’re dramatically performing their songs in the car or richie needs a cigarette, reddie always holds hands while they drive. the windows are always down. the back of the car is full of blankets and bags of clothes and snacks and eddie’s emergency first aid kit (which is a whole backpack full of supplies). eddie always has a blanket wrapped around his legs, and when the cool air seeps into the car at night, he drapes it over richie’s lap as well
