Hi! I'm going to the honors college next year at Bama, and it looks like you're in the honors college. I was wondering what to expect! Also I'm planning on living in Ridgecrest too. Any comments about anything? Thanks!!
I am indeed, and I quite enjoy the Honors experience!
You're probably already familiar with the basic requirements of the Honors College (6 hours of UH seminars, 12 hours of additional honors electives). The seminars, in my experience so far, are FANTASTIC. Such great learning experiences. And you can pick up most if not all of those other 12 hours in departmental honors courses (Honors Calculus, Honors Biology, etc.), which often aren't a lot harder than the general ones; they just go into more depth.
The Honors College hosts all kinds of events throughout the year, from yoga on Sunday evenings to tailgates at all the home games to resume workshops in the library. They have a very big presence in the university community. And living in Honors housing will definitely keep you plugged into all of that!
I've lived in Ridgecrest West both years so far and I really love it. The rooms are nice, the RAs are cool, and you're close to everything happening on campus. There's a bus stop right out front, which will get you from here to the Publix grocery store in a couple of minutes and to Lloyd (a main classroom building) in less than 10. The one thing I have learned is that the front side of the building (odd-numbered rooms) will get a lot more noise from the street than the back side (even numbers). This probably only bothers me because I am a grandma who shakes my fists at people who dare talk above a whisper after midnight. :P
I'd love to answer any other questions you have about Honors, Ridgecrest, or UA in general. Roll tide!
