Love these mornings along the Cuyahoga River
I knew I was getting close to needing new waders (or not) and was stricken with the dilemma that most are plagued with. Money, or the lack of it. I've rocked frogg toggs hellbender breathable waders for the last few seasons and they've performed flawlessly and I'm not a gracefull guy on the water. I tend to be thinking of the fish I'm seeking rather than where I should be placing my feet which has led to many trips through briars, berry bushes and has resulted in many falls. Even after all of these (mis) adventures, the hellbenders have stayed watertight. My fear (or want for new waders) came from knowing how hard I am on stuff and didn't want to chance ruining the gift of a fishing trip with failing waders so the search for a new pair began. I would love to invest in a pair of Simms waders (USA made) but the money just wasn't there at this point. Since I've had good luck with my frogg toggs I decided to look into their other offerings. That's when I found the sierran breathable waders. For the price of some of the top brands that's advertised in all the mags you could buy several pairs of the sierran's ($134- $159 online). 1st trip out with the new waders I took a nice fall and put the sealed zipper pockets to the test. 0 water in the pocket that I was hoping would protect my phone. Water was F'n cold when it came over the back of the waders though. Slipped a few times that day and took a few rocks to the shins too. Other than a wet ass, my legs were still dry after the abuse. Next trip out with the waders took me through some huge rocks, thick laurels and sticker bushes on some mountain Pa streams all while the sky dumped snow on us. These waders took it all in stride and the hand warmer pocket came in handy the last morning. Time will tell on how they hold up but if the 1st few trips are any indication I'm sure they'll hold up for several seasons. Now put the phone down and get outside! -Doug
Work has finally slowed so it was time to hit the river. -Doug
When you get crazy warm weather like this in January, you get your ass on the water. Everyone but Ben could make it out with the the crew last Sunday. Instead Ben went and fished Area 52 with his daughter and landed that slab rainbow. Next time I tell Ben I had a bow on that almost broke my 5wt he will believe me. The rest of us, Derek, Rich, Phil, myself, and Doug hit a spot in SW Ohio. We all caught fish and had a good day. Jeremy
Was able to get out and chase steel with Jeremy the other week. Cold and rather unforgiving morning at one spot was remedied with heated seats and a river change. Jeremy was able to get his 1st steelhead on the fly which made his leaky waders a tad more tolerable. Overall a good day on the water with some quality fish in the net.
