"(Winter,) Don't leave." . I sat down to paint this two weeks ago when we started seeing the first signs of Spring in Canada because I had mixed feelings about embracing Spring. It's about to get sappy so you can check out and not read the caption from here on out. I miss my old body a lot, which is funny because I've been loving and hating my body since I was 15. By all accounts, I can't complain with the measurements I was born into. I often dressed to accentuate it but it has changed a lot after pregnancy and it's hard to look in the mirror. To anyone who knows me, I've never really worn sweatpants. They are super comfortable but I felt they tended to hide me and I wanted to see myself in the mirror. But recently, that's all I wear. I have three sweatpants, which are super comfortable and I alternate between them. They are so warm and cozy. As the days passed, I began sweating in them. I know it's time to move on to lighter clothes like jeans or other pants or the dreaded shorts, but I'm going to miss disappearing into layers. Today the birds are singing and it's time to come out. It's warm and beautiful. This painting is an odd ode to Winter. Thank you, Winter, for letting me hibernate and slowly come to terms with my changing body, which sustains me and my child and that's what's most important. .
