i know awakening sharingan is associated with death but like. what if it was just associated with extreme emotions, whether they be happy or sad? like kissing your girlfriend for the first time, celebrating a birthday you thought you'd never get to, spending a day with your friends that feels like a dream come true, etc ..... like idk it sounds like a cool concept, what do u think?
i have GOOD NEWS!! that actually IS how it works!! the emotion needs to be REALLY REALLY strong, so traumatic emotions tied to death are more common, but others worse just fine!
some examples:
sarada awakens her sharingan right before meeting sasuke! she’s so happy/overwhelmed w/ emotion at the prospect of meeting her father that she awakens it
obv sasukes first awakening was from the massacre, but re-awakening it from dormancy happened when he felt the extremely strong need to protect naruto. he got his final tomoe similarly, when he resolved to have to truly break his bond w/ naruto. while thats not rly... happy, its also not due to viewing death
i would imagine similar logic could apply to the mangekyou - killing your best friend just causes such strong emotions, u’d need something of equal caliber to awaken it.
