He had finally taken her up on her offer to let him see Danielle. It had been awkward at first, not to mention painful, as he explained why he hadn’t been there all these years, but it didn’t make him love her any less. Every time he would come back from a flight, he would bring her a present from the places he’d visited. It was almost like how he had pictured--the only thing standing in the way was Tom. But Danny was grateful for what he had.
His comment had been offhanded, but clearly it had upset Sandy. “Look, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.” He raked his hand through his hair, shaking his head. Hesitating a moment, he added, “I do get nightmares, about what happened...but I try to think of you, to forget.”
