A ramble about Oitnb S1
Finally cracked and decided to start rewatching OitNB. I forgot how classic, how fabulous the first season is! It’s a lot more lighthearted and fun while still keeping the serious vibes. I wonder if they were still figuring everything out or...? It’s also interesting to see how the characters started. Tucky was an obsessive religious girl who thought she was the second coming of Jesus or some shit. I think Gloria was less reserved. I feel like Red felt more like a threat, but not a villainous type. Lorna was mostly grounded, minus her Christopher thing. Nicky felt more sex-obsessed. Like, compare her season 1 version and her season 7 version. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that) Daya a nicer (for lack of better word) person who enjoyed drawing.
It has some of my favorite plots, like the chicken situation, the WAC election, the Christmas pageant, etc. And some of my favorite lines, like “These women forget I’m here to provide food, not dildos.” And Piper was the most tolerable here. I feel like her annoyingness made sense. She’s new, she has led a pretty privileged life, she’s still figuring out her way around the place. I would be the same way (except I’m less privileged. My family is defo not wealthy). And the guards were a hell of a lot more humane. Minus Pornstache.
