The other day I had a chance to photograph family of juvenile box fish again. As the name suggests, it is box-shaped. When juvenile, it is bright yellow in color. As it ages, the brightness fades and very old specimens will have blue-grey to black colouration with faded yellow. I always enjoy the colour patterns on the body of puffers. This time try to bring up more contrast so we are able to see it full beauty. Puffers are not really goos swimmers but they other abilities. If you are interested read below. Pufferfish can inflate into a ball shape to evade predators. Also known as blowfish, these clumsy swimmers fill their elastic stomachs with huge amounts of water (and sometimes air) and blow themselves up to several times their normal size. Most pufferfish contain a toxic substance that makes them foul tasting and potentially deadly to other fish. The toxin is deadly to humans. There is enough poison in one pufferfish to kill 30 adult humans, and there is no known antidote. In Japan, they are called fugu and are a very expensive, delicious treat. I have taken many pictures of ornate ghost pipe fish over the years. So last time I tried to challenged my self and tried to photograph them the way I haven’t yet. This is the first set of pictures this challenge produced. I call it hanging out with close friend and my aim was get as much face details as possible. Like when you are on the first date admiring every wrinkle and curve on your partner’s face and never closing the eyes even when the first kiss comes. If you are interested here are some facts about reproduction of ghost pipe fish. Unbelievable moment I have witnessed the other day. Mantis shrimp destroying this shell to get the soft snail from inside.
